Thanks for telling me where to look for the max systems. Now I should vacate a system that had absolutely no strategic value solely because I used it to get the Endless Day achievement in ES2. All because it had a Dust Halo there

Looks like the Endless games dont run on Linux? The games' pages on Steam only show Windows and Mac OS but I figure it cant hurt to check if anyone knows otherwise/I'm missing something?

The art on the Endless Hero that's been in the games is really something else in ES2.

I found that tossing the dust planet specialization on everything until I got the trade routes and higher dust production buildings researched helps with the dust deficit in the early-midgame. This is in addition to building everything that produces dust of course.

Tempest is pretty great. I'm loving these sea fortresses. A shame weather doesn't come up inland, though. It'd be neat to have raid/fog/similar stuff when fighting land wars.

I really like how the Vaulters colonize stuff, it's really neat and fits in well with how I usually play as the Vodyani, prioritising specific systems that have the resource I need as my next occupation area. Their portals are also, it makes setting up forward posts while at war super easy and quick.

Vaulters are rough. My first few tries there was a titanium/glassteel planet right there, but it was boring, and I could never get up to an industry high enough to go for the research park or wonders, and every time I restart there's missing resources or I just get luxury. poo poo is rough. ALso I swear they just recently hosed with how locked engagements work. You used to be able to have a hero ship disconnect from a scout ship, reconnect to a different scout ship, fly separately to find nodes, really min max dance around, and get back by turn 9 to run your city at level 4. Then they changed how much poo poo there was to find so you only get to 2.5, but recently, just really recently, detatching your hero, or re-attaching your hero, resets their cooldown. I'm like at turn 20 and wondering "why the ever loving gently caress is my hero STILL locked and unable to switch to governor?" and I realized. What laws do you think are worth it? Research? They're already wayyy too happy. Money or research, yeah?

I feel like it's not possible to win space fights ever again until you do literally nothing but charge down the military tech tree because I don't seem to see a single weapon or shield upgrade until tier 3 and gently caress that. I would like to kill pirates, ever, please. Six carves vs. three positrons grave defeat. Great. Great job.

I think the best approach I’ve found to pirates is getting a ship to blockade their system and catch any spawns as they happen. By time the pirate lair spawns, you should already have or be ready to build your first assault class hull, and even just t1 modules have worked for me. Possibly put your hero with it. The continuous drain to the manpower (siege / blockade) of the pirate lair is crucial to ending it relatively early on. If I don’t camp a ship in there from the very start, yeah that fucker is level four before I even have a comparable manpower fleet.

If I had time and any sort of artistic ability, I'd photoshop Horatio's face over all the dudes in that famous "Oath of the Horatii" painting... But yes, the Vaulter comic is pretty grim when you consider that being eaten is the best outcome for anyone who loses a fight with Necrophages.

Are there any, like, patch notes for the expansion? I see people have mentioned boarding pods, but are there any other major changes like that. TBH, I'm not too excited about teh Vaulters in particualr, but if there are significant enough other additions I'd probably want the DLC.

Boarding lets you take enemy ships by spending manpower in battles. It's highly effective but you, need hissho population (for their law) or some other manpower edge to really make it worthwhile like a Guardian with Papers Please or A Conscription Genius senator. It also adds Vaulter heroes, they're focused on strategic resources and science, with a sprinkling of defense. Good frontline governors. You can make peace with pirates or buy marks to have them do hits on your enemies. The Unlife Aquatic fucked around with this message at 00:57 on Jan 28, 2018 |

Anyone have any advice on how the hell you’re supposed to win as the Vodyani? Maybe I shouldn’t have picked them as the first race to play as in my first time through the game. I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around their mechanics. It seems like if they don’t start with a minor race nearby that they can hoover up for essence that they’re essentially boned?

Having a minor civ nearby is a huge help. One thing that you can do with the Vodyani that you can't with any other races is move your starting system. If you find a 4-5 planet system and you can use 2-3 of them immediately (or with a single tech upgrade) I will usually move over to that one. Early ways to gain Essence that I've found: * Leech a minor civ (or major civ) * Change your Ark upgrades to include more of the Essence generators * Befriend a minor civ - exclusive with leeching it * Produce Alms (not a great solution early game, but can get you the last few you need)

i would suggest playing as another race, preferably a good one. the Empire is nice for getting the hang of things and working out what stuff does, due to the influence-spending mechanic, and the Sophons are pretty vanilla and will show you the various techs quite quickly.

I tried my absolute rear end off, making vodyani work. You gotta sell all weapons and defense on the ark at the same time you add a new thing so you can afford a culture module. Because you need culture. You need it. It's the same amount of culture you'd get by sticking your hero in an ark and making them a governor but you need them to defend your leech ships from pirates. The pirates that spawn on turn 5 and block you off from your faction quest and the rest of the star lanes until you deal with them, which you won't be able to do, ever, if you put your goddamn hero in the gubernatorial office. Anyway, add more modules. Research the one that does 5% industry per module and switch them all over to that. Build everything. Switch over to 5% science per module. Research more things. Switch back and forth if you get a backlog. Use that culture to bribe the poo poo out of any one minor faction and brainwash it ASAP. Brainwashing is the only way you get their stuff and advance your very important faction quests but also it doesn't stop people from just doing their quest and claiming them. If you wait too long all the minor factions will be too hard to brainwash, or taken by other factions. You gotta get one brainwashed early but they're going to take it from you eventually even though this is really dumb. IMO "searching ruins anomalies" shouldn't undo the insane loving investment that brainwashing entails but there you go. There's nowhere you can park a flotilla to stop someone on the other end of the galaxy from searching their own home system ruins to complete that quest. It sucks. Park on a hot system and you can switch your modules and pump out a ton of goddamn industry. Also if you are going for your faction quest be aware you WILL need planet crackers on at least one ship by the end so, you know, get used to that and start looking at hot planets you don't care about.
