I am pleasantly surprised by the new Orphaned Land. Still corny as always but entertaining than All Is One. Also there are guest appearances from Hansi Kursch and Tomas Lindberg.

I wish the metal songs from the DOOM soundtrack weren't just instrumentals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwY6kIncUtM&list=PLj7Xs0-xMLmKOp5iKims6xAylEccBLhLq&index=5

Ey guys have you ever wondered what a power metal band playing 'belongs in eurovision" songs would sound like? Answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N4tXf3Ensw And then stared at yourself in the mirror in horror because you kinda like it?

I got my Hooded Menace vinyl today and it came with a free CD by a band called The Lion's Daughter. They're a "progressive/blackened sludge metal" (according to metal-archives) band from St. Louis. And they're really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9UhLua40Yc

Vertikal and Mariner are two of their best albums IMO so no. They did sag a bit in the middle though. e: The band, not the albums.

My problem is that I really like poppy metal like that track or stuff like Babymetal but most of it gets on my nerves. I don’t really know what I like specifically. Bombastic and fun is key. I suppose that’s power metal. brb bingeing Blind Guardian albums I like how they don’t even let Brent in the building nowadays. i heard he actually had a family emergency. Sucks.

If this one doesn't do it, then maybe their Pet Shop Boys or U2 covers will do it for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTol7tiXS7w It's also entertaining to see exactly how no-budget this video was. Besides the lack of any background or props or anything, the gear is interesting to look at. When a label shoots a video like this, usually they'll contact artist reps at gear companies and at the very least, they'll lend them some gear so their product looks great in the video. In this video, the guitarist on the right has one Marshall cabinet on the bottom and an unbadged one on top. The drummer has some dings in his rims, has some dirty-looking hi-hats, and is using the ultra-cheap B8 pro hi-hats next to a Zildjian China cymbal.

Also wondering about streaming service comparisons. I've Google play for two years or so. Originally I heard it had the best metal selection. I was using my friend's Spotify in the car this weekend and it seemed like it had some additional features, not sure about music. Then I was with my girlfriend and she put on Michael Jackson radio on Spotify on my computer and it played MJ like every third song but I switched to Google to get rid of ads and it played him like every tenth song. Not sure if that's a pro or con. Anyway, went to the Minnesota metal awards this weekend. If you're curious, Buried Above Ground won band of the year. Saw them open here for Behemoth last year and they're a little too dethcore for me. Cymothoa was a cool instrumental band that played though.

There should be (though I can think of lots of $$$ reasons why there isn't), a nice easy website where you can drop in artist/album names and see which streaming services they're available on in your country. Or at least a free, no sign-up needed area the service site for the same thing. Something I got for Christmas came with a code for a free month of Amazon Music Unlimited (the one you have to pay for on top of Amazon Prime). Going to give that a spin when I clear my Spotify backlog. If anyone is interest, I'll post any interesting things I can/can't find with it.
