I've had two border collies. Our first was dumped as a puppy and followed my brother home. He had literally zero taught skills whatsoever due to being, y'know, a dumped puppy. A friend of mine visited a few days later and taught him to lie down within five minutes, and he kept the skill his entire life. He was incredibly easy to teach tricks to. My second was an old girl who I didn't have very long (less than a year) because I adopted her as a senior but she still figured things out pretty easily. Not as well as the first one, but still. Such easily trained doggos.

I saw a chow chow in person for the first time today. I was so shocked at the fluff that I forgot to take a picture. It looked something like this but way fluffier in the face area.

When I was (much) younger, we had a dog who was part lab, part border collie, and part unknown mutt. She was not smart. She tried, she really did. She wanted to do what you asked and was one of the friendliest dogs I've ever met, but she sure wasn't the brightest. I miss her sometimes.
