Tamiflu is loving useless for almost everybody who takes it and the doctor was entirely correct. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-h-newman-md/tamiflu_b_4400584.html https://www.vox.com/2015/1/7/7507791/is-tamiflu-actually-helpful She wound up septic; Tamiflu does literally *nothing* to prevent that condition.

I'm all for making fun of alt-med idiots, but taking medication for the flu isn't really that common, most people just rest and ride it out. The doctor giving her something and telling her the symptoms will be worse than the flu rather than drilling it into her head that she NEEDS to take this or might die is not a great strategy for making sure the patient actually takes the medication. That's often how doctors I've dealt with have subtly hinted that I shouldn't bother taking anything and just rest and ride it out. When I had to take serious antibiotics the doctor told it it would gently caress up my guts but it was critical I finish them, it was not presented as a choice.

Tamiflu is bullshit though and I guarantee (with my Internet Doctor Degree) that she wouldn't have ended up any different had she taken it, except maybe constipated which could have actually worsened things. Sepsis =/= the flu

tamiflu is an anti-viral, which would do exactly fuckall if you take it when you already have the flu, being a preventative measure.

That's not how anti-virals or Tamiflu works. It should be taken within 48 hours of symptom onset, though. CDC recc is to initiate ASAP even if you don't know symptom onset if you're severely ill, though. I'm not saying it would have changed anything, but this post was just wrong.

I once watched a giant, obese nobody go up against some famous dart superman I'd never heard of, and it was somehow one of the most compelling sports moments of my life. They were neck-and-neck right up until the end, and I was totally invested in watching their little underdog drama play out.

Watching episode 2 of "Dirty Money" on Netflix and reading on the second screen that Scott Tucker has been sentenced to 16 years in prison and a 1.3 bn (BN!) judgement for the poo poo he and his cronies pulled (predatory payday loans) is the good stuff. The intro of the episode has some repo men pulling his prized racing cars from the property. Nnnnnnnghhh yeaaaaaaah. It's even better when you see him comment on the proceedings and not showing the slightest bit of remorse. Speaking of assholes going to prison, what happened to the Shkreli sentencing? Has it been delayed? It was scheduled for January 16 IIRC. Nasser, Tucker, Shkreli ... they always come (or go) in threes. Oh, Shkreli is the opener for episode 3. mcbexx has a new favorite as of 01:23 on Jan 31, 2018 |

I found it weird that the HuffPo article on that has a closing paragraph directing people to a suicide prevention hotline: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mark-salling-glee-dead-dies_us_5a70b320e4b0be822ba0e806 Maybe a "don't get off on diddling kids" hotline is more appropriate. I had to spend a couple nights in the hospital a couple weeks ago, and the nearest hospital with a bed was 40 miles away because the other 6 in between were all full with flu patients. It's bad this year

What can hospitals do for a flu? Just give you some water and an aspirin and put you in bed? Unless you're under 6 or have AIDS there's no reason to go to the hospital.
