Scott Manley has a bunch of videos, and did a couple where he started over from scratch, showing off different activites. (:ssh: the videos of him randomly exploring for an hour or two convinced me to buy the game): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYu7z3I8tdEnye22pxwFp2QogI9t76mCN

Isinona also has a bunch of :sicknasty: videos flying around FA off doing most activities, but most of his videos are pretty dated so don't look to them for fittings or much Horizons content: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjgBlzLxsgbVuHfZPe0AeIg

You may find Chris Roberts and Lowtax in there, too! There was a part of the kickstarter where you could name NPCs, so there are some goofy names out there.

The algorithm is kickstarter backers got to name a random NPC each.

That's why you'll occasionally run into Lowtax or Chris Roberts. It's also technically possible to run into Lowtax and Chris Roberts duking it out.

If you run into David Braben though, bare in mind that's not an NPC, that's the man himself. Whether you deploy hardpoints or not in that situation is entirely up to you.

So I went searching for a good X52 bind setup and I found one. Maybe people already know about it but I thought I would post it. You can get it here for either the X52 Pro or just X52:

https://github.com/X52EliteSetup

You have to first use a special profile for Logitech's controller software because it uses the three way switch on the joystick to switch between flight, landing, and drive modes. Each mode maps your buttons to new inputs on the keyboard thus the need to use the Logitech software. The whole point is that it virtually eliminates the need for using your keyboard as every command is available on the hotas. So far I have found the layout to be very intuitive.

The only annoying thing I found is that when you select focus on your comms the buttons you press will start typing things in the text box since it is using remapped keyboard buttons but you can work around that.

Omega nebula.

Bring lots of heat sinks because you'll find yourself wedged between double-B:s every other jump (and occasionally between a B and a black hole… which is not a good place to be at all).

Some day, I'll figure out where the dying star field I stumbled across on my way back from there actually was and give that as a tip instead, because it was actually a much neater place — it was shock full of carbon-type stars (of all kinds… an by shock full, I mean there were a couple of dozens of them, which is a lot in relation to how rare they are in general).

I'd say the neutron fields ~3kLy “west” of Colonia as well, not just because I claimed half of them, but because there are so many silly earthlikes and terraformables there in positions where you'd never expect to find them, but at that point, you've go so far beyond what Palin needs that you'll end up forgetting why you went there in the first place.

One of my favorite things about the X52 is that mode switch: I have mine set to Flight, Combat, and Escape. It deploys/retracts hardpoints automatically with additional macros to reconfigure my power distributor. I feel bad for people that have to manually deploy hardpoints and click arrow buttons.

Instead of using modes on my X52, I just use the pinky trigger on the stick as a shift button for a few specific things. That's enough to keep everything I need bound on the stick for normal play.

However the one thing I use keyboard and mouse for is to drive the external camera around like I'm playing an FPS with noclip enabled. It's very precise and leaves the HOTAS free to fly while using the camera.

Using macros for the distributor is a lifesaver though. I have the stick's hat switch set up so that each direction puts 4 pips in the corresponding area and 1 pip in each of the others. It's so much easier to rapidly switch between what you need in the middle of a fight that way.
