What the gently caress is the point of a speed limit at a drag strip?

We're banned* by the NHRA! *Banned from putting down times without proper safety equipment installed. xzzy posted:What the gently caress is the point of a speed limit at a drag strip? Most, if not all, drag strips have a time at which all cars below that time have to have full on safety equipment including a roll cage. The Demon lacks the required equipment. It's an insurance thing. iospace fucked around with this message at 00:38 on Jan 31, 2018 |

xzzy posted:What the gently caress is the point of a speed limit at a drag strip? Safety. What that letter is saying is that this vehicle that can go at ludicrous speed doesn't have the items it needs (possibly but not limited to 'chute, full cage, fire extinguisher, harness etc) that are a requirement of cars that go that fast. It's not a "speed limit" it's a liability thing. edit:

Next step is to see if they can make the factory car compliant without going back over 10 seconds. Then it'll be a fair comparison with current, legal 9-second cars.

Memento posted:Safety. The NHRA has a set-aside for vehicles originally manufactured after a certain date (2008 I think) that exempts them from some of the safety rules, since there are now a lot of cars that can dramatically exceed the old regulations directly off the showroom floor. The Demon exceeds that rule, which means it is subject to all NHRA safety regs, which of course it doesn't meet, since it doesn't have a cage for starters.

Technically they didn't kill themselves ON the runway, Everything was going fine when they were on the runway. When they suddenly found themselves off the runway is where they ran into issues.

Oh I know about the FIAT-Poland connection, I even knew a FIAT executive (rich uncle of a neighbor) who seemed to spend most of the year working in Poland. It's just that, it's Italian to me. Lots of FIATs were made in Poland and this makes them no less Italian to meNitroSpazzz posted:

Boo you're no fun. Yes, it's the secret 1986 Audi "Sport Quattro S2" prototype as some sources call it, kept hidden even from Audi management because it proved how outdated the S1's front engine layout was (for publicity reasons, Audi management insisted on running a relatively conventional car in WRC, instead of fully exploiting the regulations like other manufacturers). So secret only one was made, that was clandestinely test-run in Czechoslovakia and on conventional open roads in Bavaria, and only three or four distant, grainy BW photos were ever taken of it, and it was disassembled within days of being revealed to the public by a nosy Austrian journalist. And nobody makes a 1/43 model of it OK smart guys, what about this one?

I was gonna guess it's some intern's first cutaway drawing because they made it look like the engine is in the driver's seat. Also the spare tire is 100% a guess on the angle.
