credit goes to LAWatson for this one. Celeste has some serious tech, I can't wait for someone to figure out how to TAS it. https://puu.sh/zdZiR/95330533a9.mp4

I was so excited last night because while playing through Ultionus and practicing for some short little optimization stuff, I found a glitch that actually helps with one of the hardest fights. Not that the fight itself is hard, but it has enough RNG to make it annoying. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/224523924 I was loving up and I kept dying and I accidentally died in the hallway right before the boss room. When I went back to the boss room, the boss trigger had actually moved to the hall before the boss so the fight started without actually locking the camera and setting the boss walls to be solid. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/224524630 If I just kill the boss then it crashes the game, but as I found out in the above clip, I can just walk on through the room. Saves me bunch of time and lets me avoid fighting the one RNG boss in the entire game. Such a lifesaver. It's kinda cool finding a speedrun glitch thing. It's almost like I'm a real speedrunner now or something :P

The TAS spent about a year trying to figure out how to trigger it consistently before the author finally threw up their hands and basically stated it was down to luck. So uh, you throw a lot of attempts at it and hold on to your butts.

It's one of those things where it just kind of is luck based on that bit. Makes me think of early FF4 any% runs when they started using the 64-stair glitch but didn't have all the stuff properly mapped out so sometimes you just hardlocked with that annoying frying bacon noise and didn't know why.

Literally only need to catch the error, but I haven't learned enough Python to learn the syntax for that yet. It'll be fixed for next event.

Who else here is participating in the 12 Hour Challenge? I'm going to learn Soul Blazer for my first recorded* speedrun ever. I've been pretty hype for SB since seeing elmagus running the JP version a couple weeks ago, and there's one other person learning it in the 12HC. Seems like a prefect time to get into the scene. (*: I tried running Zelda 2 many years ago when the big hub was SDA, but I never recorded a run. My PB would have been about 1h55m for what's now Any% No OoB. I'd like to revisit that game someday.)

It's possible they were recorded in one shot. Given the play style in Billy's videos, it's more likely that vanilla MAME's INP recording feature was abused, in which a person can re-record an INP as many times as they wish to craft their desired performance.

The use of incidental details like the bandage girl animation for Super Meat Boy or the initial screen-drawing poo poo in Donkey Kong is absolutely amazing and I hope this stuff keeps happening. Cheating is bad, but the technical take-downs and evidence displays are just. Goddamn.
