He said "an ether fire is the second worst lab accident I've ever seen, the poor student almost died." Every year, the students asked "what was the worst accident you've ever seen" and he always had this great story about how he was working at the army research lab as a postdoc and somebody hosed up the flamethrower and the guy testing it and a couple people around him died in sticky fire. I don't know why any idiot would buy a flamethrower from any company, much less something made with Elon Musk's name slapped on it. Even this baby poo poo is enough to gently caress you up royally.

rudatron posted:the fact that the stock markets are in trouble because of possible wage growth shows you just how ideological wall street as an institution is, it's nuts. It’s not ideology, that’s the crazy part. The stock market is high because the wealthy have gamed the system to the point where they literally have more money than they know what to do with. Since they have no other options they’ve just been sticking it in the stock market. Now that interest rates and wages might be going up it means that some of that money will be going away, which is forcing people to sell off some of their stockpiles. That’s right, our economy is so broken that the stock market is now negatively correlated with the economic health of the non-rich. Which means that this may not be the start of the next recession but the recovery beginning in earnest (or it could just be another meltdown. Who can say for sure these days). readingatwork fucked around with this message at 16:02 on Feb 5, 2018 |

I've said before that 'the economy' as economists and financiers define it no longer meaningfully includes much of the population. The crash and the recovery are, in a way, the same thing.

now that we've done away with all pretenses and safeguards and turned the function of the US economy into an endless class war it is impossible for the owners and the workers to be doing well at the same time the stock market crashing as wages rise should make this clear to people. it should, but it probably won't

Wage growth is so pathetic and marginal that it's completely irrelevant. What's actually happening is the bond market sell off is about to cause a debt meltdown.
