Yeah, the horse controls are perfect. Agro is a horse and responds to commands like an actual horse would. You can't drive him like a car. You can also trust his judgment and don't have to actually steer him when you're going down a windy path over a gorge. He'll follow the path on his own since, like a real horse, he's not going to leap off a ledge to his death just because the rear end in a top hat on his back doesn't tell him not to.

So I’m still working on Kiryu’s Real Estate minigame. Finally hit a good rhythm and have taken out Leisure King and Electronics King. Working on Gambling King now, and have about 60% ownership there. Pleasure King is next and then I assume the real enemy battle will begin after that.

Been taking the opportunity to work on Kiryu’s training as well. Finished Brawler, but am stuck on 4th training session of Rush. This is the ¥10 million where the guy wants to test his katana. Any hints?

Btw, I love how I am at a pretty pivotal part of the story and the game is just letting me do this side stuff. The only thing it does is kinda nag me from time to time. Did the same with Majima and the hostess minigame as well, but the hostess minigame was fun as gently caress and real estate is annoying and kinda boring (although the money battle thing is strangely fun). Have had some fun side quests though, and have picked up a few security folks and advisors.

Tl:dr Yakuza 0 is still cool and good. I am ~90 hrs in. Haven’t quite finished the story yet.

Actually, the Pleasure King should've been the third one, his properties are much cheaper than the Gambling. But then again, if you're at 60% you're probably making some good dough, so keep up.

I quit after the Pleasure King takeover to go back to the main plot and stopped when I got back to Majima. Should probably carry on tomorrow or so.

I don't remember your main character in SOTC talking to Dormin in the beginning of the game and him explaining what you have to do. Did they add this in the remake? It's been probably 8 years or so since I last played it so I don't really remember.

Yeah, I found out I did them in the wrong order after I’d already gotten about 50% of the way through with the Gambling King. Ah well.

Btw, JCC is the worst minigame. It just seems to be based on RNG and luck.

Me either! I didn't think they'd actually add in a new cutscene but I didn't remember any of that. In my busted memory, you just kinda got dropped off at the shrine and got to it.I'm glad there's stuff I forgot.

Normally I love trophies, but some of them seem kinda odd with the nature of the game? Like, on one hand, you're supposed to feel sorrow and guilt that you slaughtered these majestic beasts. But on the other – how fast can you kill them on hard mode?

Unless you are talking merely from a performance standpoint I could not disagree more.

SOTC remake is awesome though. I had reservations about it feeling like it lost some of it's style and I still feel that way, but I'm not bothered by it. If anything it's like a really great cover of one of your favorite songs. One that's so good it stands up to the original. Some of the more ethereal qualities that feel lost are replaced by something much more detailed, which gives you something new to fixate on. And make no mistake it's very subtle. Not like they tried to reinvent the wheel. I am actually surprised with how much restraint they've had in some areas where they could have gone much further with modernizing it. I don't think it replaces the original or makes it obsolete. But it's certainly a cool thing that I'm glad exists. The only negative feelings I have is that if someone chose only to play this version, they are missing just a tiny bit of the magic that made the PS2 game so great.

Well it's just that by playing it again I feel all the magic that I felt with the original. Not only am I still awestruck by the colossus, the immersion's of the landscape and beauty have sucked me in even more than the blurry textures of the ps2 days, which even then amazed me. I found myself running through fields even though there was nothing I was specifically going to. I think they were able to capture everything they needed to and more.

I guess what I meant was not that the magic is lost, It's that it's somehow shifted, become different in small, subtle ways. I certainly didn't mean it as a knock on the remaster I think it's great. It's not as soft and ghostly, but the added detail creates another kind of immersion.

I guess I could see that, but to me that's a benefit. I guess when I played it the first time I saw it more as limitations than hiding anything.

I might be getting this mixed up with the JCC equivalent in Kiwami, but theres a strategy to it. Each one of the fighters has a move they're strongest with: rock, paper, or scissors, and they're most likely to use their strongest move. It's not 100%, but if you choose your move that beats their strongest move you'll win fairly consistently.
