American shows of military strength don’t come cheap. The cost of shipping Abrams tanks and high-tech hardware to Washington could run in the millions, and military officials said it was unclear how they would pay for it.

But Obama and Hillary had no problem paying for sending high-tech hardware to enemies and letting them have it for free, in some cases it can and will be used against us. And it was much more than a few millions.

Well, he could stage a really cheap parade for the press on April 1 and just fill a reviewing stand on Pennsylvania Avenue with officials and call out some high school bands.

Have the cops prepare as usual, get an announcer with a good imagination, space the bands really far apart, then all the officials and staff listen to some speeches, have Trump stand up and surprise the press with a speech to honor our new stealth forces, and then have the officials act like they are watching “invisible tanks” and “stealth units,” roll by between the bands....

Would be a great prank.

I call BS as well. Trump isn't going to waste millions of dollars, probably 10 million+ for some huge parade that would shut down a decent chunk of Washington for a day or two (which would cost millions more).

I hope he's not doing it - a military parade for the sake of a military parade is....I witnessed one of those in Saudi Arabia, and a couple of other Middle Eastern/North African countries, and I witnessed one in Eastern Europe during the Cold War.

It's not an image I want Trump to project. If he wants to honor troops returning in large numbers from somewhere, sure, but just having a parade to have a parade.....no.

Trump signs sweeping two-year budget deal

Didn't you get the memo that deficits only matter when a Democrat is in charge?

How is this a victory?

Spending is out of control in Congress, and not only has Trump not managed to reign it in - when many were counting on him to impose some sort of financial discipline, or at least change the prevailing mentality - but now, there’s a “new acceptance” of high spending again, just what the country DOESN’T need.

Drain the Swamp doesn’t include bringing sanity back to government spending. Luckily, I should be dead before the US defaults on its debt and can’t borrow anymore, and the riots and civil war starts.

Mr. President - the Congress is unable to cut costs. You have spoken forcibly against bloated government spending and the need to work toward a mean and lean fiscal policy. As the Congress cannot help in this regard, it is up to your Government in place to take on the challenge. Order an immediate 10% cut for all departments and agencies other than military and law enforcement. Not in ten years, but in one year with the clock starting today. I say excuse the military, but we well know that the Pentagon is bloated and there much waste there, tell Mattis to cut it to the bone, set the example. Let the Administration show the way! Thank you, Sir!

This is one area where the US, so powerful as it is militarily and industrially, is vulnerable to failure, and making itself more so with blow-out spending bills like this.

What’s that quote about the greatest threat to any country coming not from the outside, but internally? THIS is an internal threat to the US.

You don’t think China (and others) are, right now, trying to figure out some way to use this to attack/weaken the US??

Trump never promised any fiscal discipline. He’d be perfectly fine with a Federal budget triple its current size, as long as it was all spent on Americans.

There is one thing the idiot RINOs can be sure of. The Dims will campaign on the increasing deficit, and while keeping their sheeple in ignorance will blame all the deficit on the recent tax changes and not their spending demands it took to get this bill passed.

Every bit of “bipartisanship” the RINOs play with the Dims are acts of entrapping the RINOs into the next stage of attacks against them by the Dims.

Lose the politically correct BS and that alone will free up tens of billions, on top of increase morale.

But ‘Mad Dog’ and the current CIC don’t really have an appetite to do that apparently.

It's ironic that the Federal government would probably be more fiscally responsible right now if Hillary Clintonhad won the 2016 election.

Everything in the government is bloated, even the military. Defense spending has been in the control of contractors who bribe congressmen for decades. Before any government department gets more funding, it should have to present a detailed account of how it is spending what it gets now. I don’t think any of them can do that. They don’t even know how the money is being spent.

George Bush let the same thing happen when the Republicans had control of Congress. They spent like Democrats. It will never end.

He chose one of two prudent paths. One path was to get some of the things he wanted and bide time until the GOPE can be conquered and the Dems are arrested. The other was to veto and be overridden with what such a majority would have wanted, without his say.

I would have chosen to veto, but the situation with his own party and the stupid Russian investigation really has tied him up a lot. He wants to get SC justices through and he either needs his party or the Democrats to get them through. Tell us which terrible side you would want to get your picks into power.

Yes, that is truly heartbreaking because it also involves so much loss of life and pain for our military and their families. And what good has come from any of these misadventures in Muslim countries? None, and worse, it opened the floodgates to bring Muslims into the US. That is the real threat to our country; the enemy within. Nothing we do overseas matters, because we allowed Islam here.

So I didn't even notice we had a shutdown because it was 519 minutes and existed only because Rand Paul started metaphorically jerking off about needless crap until after the deadline passed.

Doing some research, this is one of the shortest times between shutdowns since Reagan.

What's funny is this freeper is totally right.

We'd be in out 100th day of shutdown and Hillary would probably increase her Grand Bargain offer to the GOP to the point she'd be pledging to abolish Social Security while the Tea Party is holding out for reimposing the gold standard.

OK most of that's a joke but she'd definitely be offering the same savage social insurance cuts Obama offered, and this freeper would probably be calling her a communist instead of dimly realizing that yeah Republicans only want to cut the federal budget when there's a Democrat in the white house to take the heat for it.

Saw the headline, immediately knew what Freep would zero in on:

Prison for woman, 19, who livestreamed drunken-driving crash that killed sister

A young woman in California has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for driving drunk while livestreaming the crash that killed her younger sister.

The Merced Sun Star reported that Obdulia Sanchez, 19, was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI and child endangerment stemming from the July crash.

Let us pause and note that Freep's spiritual ancestors got all frosty when they heard names like O'Keefe and Murphy. Then the got over that and got upset about names like Schneider and Mueller. Then they got over that and got upset over names like Kowalski and Nowak. And today if you suggested they should be suspicious of those names they'd be baffled at the suggestion, and many Freepers probably have those surnames. And yet they persist.

I don't know what the numbers actually say, but I tend to assume anyone mentioned in a news article about things happening inside the United States is a citizen, no matter what the person's name is. I mean, it's the United States of America. There are basically no names that sound "foreign" to me, just names that sound unusual. I can hear a name and immediately tell that it's not a common European name, but it literally never occurs to me that someone must be a foreign national based on their name. I wonder if that would be different for me had I grown up entirely in the sticks. I'd think that media exposure would still desensitize people to the presence of "foreign" names.

That's neither here nor there, but it's one of those things that makes me think about just how differently two people can interpret the same information. I try to keep that in mind, but it's easy to forget.
