Quick question for hotas users. Do you prefer full axis throttle or a button to stick it into reverse throttle?

Feels pretty intuitive for both flight and srv. Here is the slider with white square outline. It was supposed to be red, I don't know WTF.

I've got my throttle set to full axis and the little button next to the slider - blue in the picture - puts me in reverse when held. I used to have it as a reverse toggle but I kept forgetting which mode I had on.

I bound a toggle switch on the Warthog throttle for switching between forward/reverse and a button to hold for full reverse. The air brake switch has both of those in one, so it works perfectly for it.

Full range, because pushing forwards to go backwards is weird and you're weird if you do it. Seriously though, I personally find full range more intuitive.

timn posted:The best part about those super massive stars is how it looks when you jump into the system. The distance your ship travels on arrival is so negligible compared to the size of the star that it looks you're sitting stationary while the star just appears directly in front of you. Also, I don't know if the animation really is any different, but there's something about the way the warp-in star effects behave that just screams “Waaaah! Too big! Braaaaaake!” Sekenr posted:I prefer the slider on the side of X52 for forward/reverse toggle. Feels pretty intuitive for both flight and srv. Sedisp posted:Quick question for hotas users. Do you prefer full axis throttle or a button to stick it into reverse throttle? It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm combat flying I tend to do full axis. If I'm ferry moving/exploring/hauling, forward only with a reverse button.

Yeah I think there is something different about the warp-in animations when jumping into supermassive stars. I tried to clip it below. It is just much more sudden. https://twitter.com/blind_rasputin/status/961659014173016064

The new CG is making me sad again that they've completely blown off ever adding new/better SRVs for different tasks. Need a hauler for all the artifacts.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. The moment you drop out of witchspace there is a brief period where your ship zooms up on the star. However it seems like the distance your ship moves in that transition is fixed no matter how big the star is. So when you're dropping in on a supergiant, the star is so huge that it's immediately in your face and it doesn't look like you're moving at all when you pop into the system.

Well, if you follow the plots of station attacks, the last two attacked are certainly very close to the core. They’ve completely left the plaedis sector by this point. Hope they introduce atmospheric landings for the impending rescue missions and evacuation of earth.

Today I noticed something odd on the galaxy map, a blip of red among all of the white stars. It was labeled the Eskimo Nebula, and was a nebula that surrounds and contains only a single system, GCRV-4981. I have found Solaris But oh, there is an odd refractive problem in the nebula 70,000Ls away Oh, it is a hole in space this might be exciting let’s get closer Wait, never mind, no ring.

If you get a crew member can you both drive your SRVs at the same time? I'm not sure if I'm going to do more than one load of artifacts for the CG. This is time consuming as hell.

No, and yeah it's a pain of a CG with the limited SRV space.

So I found the way into the Orion Nebula and Bernard’s loop despite the Col 70 permit locked space. My python has a 37ly jump range so most anyone could probably do it. It is tricky since the lead off starting system as well as all of the Orion nebulas are surrounded by Col 70 permit locked systems. This way in seems to be the way most people describe online, and with the waypoints it’s quite easy, passing right over/through the Col 70 permit locked areas. You first get to HIP 23759 in the witch head nebula. There is an asteroid base here called the Witch Head Science Centre that is quite beautiful. It is, from what I can tell, the closest Xeno research station to the Col 70 region and I could almost imagine some fan fiction where they are responsible for the permit lock on Col 70 so they can study the Xenos. you will need to get geographically below this waypoint before your jump plotter will work, or as close as possible. You’ll have luck if you plot from Maia space. Due to the permit locks surrounding it, approaching from above is fraught with problems Go to the base first, get a beer, donate a million credits to xeno science, get rep, and then go to the next step. From HIP 23579 your jump plotter can then probably find the route to the next waypoint, the trapezium sector Messier 78 nebula. It takes quite a bit of crunching by the plotter to get this. From there, you’re inside and past the Col 70 permit lock, so besides one specific small nebula that is also permit locked, you have free reign of Bernard’s loop and the Orion Nebula Star garden. Considering this destination is so near the core (took me only ~30_40 jumps to get out there) and it’s beautiful as hell including an asteroid base, if you are bored you should most definitely head out there.
