Idunno, if that sort of connection gives you that big of an empathy boost, then you're not emphasizing as much with people who don't remind you of someone you know personally. Which is the root of... a lot of things. Okay, that's the way caring for strangers works in practice most of the time, so it's sometimes good that it exists at all. But we should at least be striving for our care to be more egalitarian than that gut reaction. Ditocoaf fucked around with this message at 09:34 on Feb 9, 2018 |

Its not really that made up a situation, republicans pull the "what if it were my daughter/sister/mother" crap every time someone is revealed to be too much of a predator for even them to defend.

Science journalism sucks. JRRose is no exception. The chemical was used as a substrate for growing cells that could be injected into bald skin to develop new follicles. It does nothing on it's own.

When he was Communications Minister, he enacted polices that deliberty turned what was going to be a world class national broadband network FTTP into .... basically a complete dud using old technology that was never going to work. Pretty much no better than shouting into a tin can connected to a long piece of string. Hence the can and string.

Back when Abbott was the opposition leader, Turnbull was the Shadow Minister for Communications and in charge of coming up with an alternative to the National Broadband Network plan the then Labor government was implementing. Then they got into government and Turnbull oversaw the changes. You can guess as to how well it functions as by how Pope draws it.

I mean you guys are a giant island/continent, but I always thought that the lovely internet was mostly exaggerated? e: that said the datacenter that I work at specifically tries to avoid routes through Australia and go through Singapore, etc instead.

Yes they did treat dogs as a livestock animal in that region for much of history, but it's basically eliminated outside of anachronistic areas in the boonies. Every country has food cultures that seem weird to us but it always seems to be the non-white traditions that get played up the most. For instance I never see people making a fuss about the French drowning birds in booze and eating them whole.

"It is the duty of every parent to seek out the absolute best education for their child, even if that means supporting a horrifically biased system ." Even people that don't have kids. Tinsley probably believes urban legends about black lawn jockeys being markers on the Underground Railroad and/or a commemoration of a black Revolutionary War hero named Jocko Graves who frozen to death watching General Washington's horses: https://www.snopes.com/jocko-lawn-jockey-racist/ If these legends had a basis in fact, displaying a black lawn jockey would be a strong anti-racist, pro-black statement - but there's no concrete evidence backing up the stories. There's no record of a person named "Jocko Graves" existing or of anybody freezing to death while watching Washington's horses; people didn't use the colors red and green to signal "stop" and "go" before WWI and it's really hard to distinguish between different colors in the dark anyway, so lawn jockeys couldn't have been used in the way that the Underground Railroad legend describes. There's just no actual good reason to display a lawn jockey. Pththya-lyi fucked around with this message at 17:18 on Feb 9, 2018 |

What'll kill off many conservative cartoons is the death of newspapers, and even then some of their more odious knuckleheads will still get that sweet, sweet wingnut welfare. You don't see AF Branco in the local paper, but he's still paid by People For Small Government To Spend Trillions On Our Precious, Precious Wars or whatever. Holds true for the left, too. Tom Tomorrow >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ted Rall, but Rall earns more because he strips naked for Sputnik.
