The left's slogan game is a lot stronger than the right's tbh, they just need to get better at ramming their message through into the public discourse. OWS managed to force "the 1%" into the political lexicon, so if nothing else it was not a wasted effort.

What I'm talking about here is the messaging war, which you guys are losing big time. Just go through these threads and see who "liked" my comments. Women and POC. We see something that you guys don't and it's going to tank single payer for more than actual discussions of the very real problems of implementation that you are happy to hand wave away.

You guys are used to winning (and yes, I'm talking about white men). You're used to getting what you want. You see a straight line from where we are to where you want to go and nothing in between. We know better. We know that given the chance, you will drop us and our needs like a hot potato. You see people not getting health care in the private system, we see people not getting it in the public system as well. Then, when we bring up this very real possibility, you tout the fact that people aren't getting healthcare in this system. Is that you? Are YOU not getting healthcare in this system? Of course you are. Or you're young and don't need it. And you'll get it in the public system. It works for the majority of you either way. There is zero chance that a single payer health care system will not address the needs of white men in this country. Zero.

If you want women and POC on board with single payer (the Democratic base, btw) then you need to answer our concerns with actual policy, with concrete assurances, with legislation that works for us that we know won't be negotiated away. That's the bottom line. I have yet to see a single payer plan that even meets the minimum of addressing most of these concerns. All I hear is "it'll be that way" or "yeah, we *should* do that". Not good enough. And when we say it isn't good enough, we get told we just don't want single payer or we're neoliberals, ffs. Come ON. We're talking about people's reproductive rights here. At least pretend it's a priority.

I want to hear "I, as a white progressive man, won't support a single payer system that doesn't guarantee equal access to health care for women, POC and the LGBTQ community". I do not want to hear "Should we privatize social security since it could be voted away?" Amazingly tone deaf. You're losing this one. If you want to win, you need to change tactics.
