Krankenstyle posted:are cardinals supposed to be hostile? Cardinals are hella territorial. Also a lot of birds are way more timid in front of huge, dangerous beings than they are in front of their bird peers. Although I did run into a couple of sparrows who were doing a whole "puff up and scare you" display at me once. Yes, little buddies, I'm absolutely shaking to death at little fuzzballs I could open palm slam to death if I were so inclined.

They are a seperate and native species to Australia. They are usually chill, curious and not afraid of humans until it's breeding season and then all bets are off, They will aggressively protect their nests and swoop anything they regard as a threat, Whole neighbourhoods can be terrorised and people have had serious eye injuries, or even lost an eye to them' Beautiful singers though. There is evidently a Snowy down here in Milwaukee, and one reported a little north in Port Washington. A friend and I go out to find them, but it normally turns into day drinking and brunch with no owl

Absurd Alhazred posted:"Yes, yes... soon our plans will come to fruition..." Their plans are pretty much ‘strip this tree of nectar while making making as much noise as birdly possible and be absolutely fabulous while doing it!’ We have a couple of pairs of Rainbow Lorikeets that have claimed the bottlebrush tree outside our balcony. All other birds are noisily chased off. When they are chill though, they have a lovely melodic coo and are pretty friendly. Once the tree has finished flowering (which it does twice, spring and summer) , they disappear and other birds move back in. So we either get woken up by Lorikeets screeching or by Kookaburras laughing, Currawongs, Magpies and Butcherbirds singing. Great photos of them, mine are all crappy iPhone pictures.
