It's false. And the manual was about 120 pages. They shipped a butchered version that was under 30 pages because they didn't want to freak gamers out. This despite the fact that the game was already billed as a hardcore simulation.

So, you're saying that you DID NOT attack a Coca-Cola machine?

And did BC even have 120 pages of poo poo worth to do?

Jinkies! Looks like we've got a mystery on our hands.
I personally find LOD fascinating. Even though nice people in the thread have tried to explain it to me, I still don't understand what it's supposed to be. I've gone to the steam page and looked. The same with Battlecruiser and all that; I'm still struggling to understand what genre it falls in or who it's for.

So I guess what I'm saying is I'll take posts about LOD over posts about anime any day.

Have you ever worried about your catapults being cleared quick enough to get another BARCAP into the air? Have you ever done a quick back of the envelope calculation to figure out the fuel consumption of a tank column? Have you ever had to reduce energy allocations to HET your way out of a hellbore attack? Have you ever hankered after a game where you could be seriously in the poo poo but limp your rear end back to base?

It's a grognardy game for grognards. Some of the finest simulations out there have the worst loving interfaces because that's not why you bought them. I'm a huge fan of CMANO because it does a fairly decent job of simulating air and sea warfare, but it's literally a windows application. Combat flight sims get even worse, because the amount of bullshit that you'll put up with to fly a fidelitous Bf-109 is quite high if the flight model is sound.

Hell, we still play Silent Hunter III because it's the best wartime sub simulator there actually is. So Derek's stuff _appeals_ to that segment of the population.

Me too. Derek, would you be generous enough to elevator pitch LOD for us? Honest to God, it's not clear from gameplay videos or the website.

Like:

In Mario Brothers the goal is to get to the end of the stages before the timer runs out. The challenge is from hazards and enemies that kill you. You win by avoiding the hazards and completing all the stages. You lose by running out of lives.

In Counter Strike the goal is to defeat the opposing team by either 1) killing all the opposing team members or 2) completing some kind of objective before the clock runs out. The challenge is surviving the hostility of the opposing players. You win if your team survives or completes your objective within the time limit. You lose if the opposing team survives or completes their objective with the time limit.

It's a combined arms online-only game. It's played primarily in fps mode, but also has air/space craft, as well as ground vehicles and naval craft.

I know, right? Take a look at the docs

http://lodgame.com/docs/

Honestly, simplicity was the impetus behind my designing that game back in 2010. I felt that the market for my style of games was pretty much non-existent now. And having grown older and semi-retired, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to spend another 4-5 years making another complex game, while taking the risk that it would make its money back. In fact, that was the other reason why we did the RTS spin-off game, Line Of Defense Tactics using Unity.

It was also supposed to be my last major game before completely retiring from the biz.

With the port to UE4 having its own challenges, as I did with LOD Tactics, I've also been working on another spin-off game which will definitely launch before LOD itself. That being a battle royale type game using the same assets, world etc.
