I played with headphones on for the first time last night and if my s/o had come up and tapped me on the shoulder I probably would have had a heart attack. I was ~completely immersed~.

Every ship sounds different, everything in the game has its own little sound that meshes together - from the subtle thrum of a big ship's power plant, to the whine of capacitors charging a heartbeat before your afterburner kicks in, to the distinct engine sounds of every ship - the sound design in this game is top notch. After a while you start being able to more or less navigate a supercruise drop to a target by ear alone, just listening to the noises your FSD makes in-flight.

In real life, that would be an x-ray binary as the black hole would suck in material off the other star.

In game, they couldn't implement accretion disks without killing the game :smith:

Yup, by that point, you're spaghetti from the tidal forces.

The radiation is probably handled by the ship itself, so that to me doesn't require too much of a suspension of disbelief.

There are so many good tiny sounds in the game. The last two seconds of a discovery scan, that stolen-from-star-Wars radio sound when you recall your ship on a planet, refueling in space...

I wish I could experience dropping in front of a sun for the first time again because I specifically remember it being loud and terrifying and awesome all at once.

They've talked about it, but it definitely wont happen before the next console gen: the PS4/XB1 can't even do VR yet, so accretion discs are years away, if ever.

Not really much to see or do there unless you like looking at FDev's idea of what human colonization would be like.

Except that since Sol is a hand-crafted system, many of the landable moons have relatively easy access to a shitbunch of rare materials. I think between the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, you can grab pretty much all the important rare minerals you'd want.

i'm up to about 175 systems visited out of my 285 system road to riches journey and im already theory crafting ships that i will never actually be able to buy since i will jump directly into a black hole in system 284

when i get back i want to get combat vouchers for the engineer that wants combat vouchers, is this a federal assault ship that will do the job in a combat zone without getting its rear end shot off (i have no clue what to put in the low class optional slots except armor plating) https://coriolis.io/outfit/federal_...gun%20pig%20fas

1 Huge beam and 4 MCs gives you more time before you drain your weapons, so if your doing PvE, I think it is better.

Note that Medium kinetic weapons take a damage penalty against larger ships, which is a really important factor.

However with Beta 3.0 Efficient beams got way better, so after 3.0 I'm thinking 4 Beams, 1 Huge MC. But I need more time to experiment to know for sure.

Bulk passenger missions were completely destroyed and now it's just the waiting game for the big update to inevitably introduce a new unintended source of money.

With that said, rescue missions were pretty much unchanged and can provide a decent, steady stream of income if you don't mind a more active style. Stations are even getting closer to the bubble for them.

If you aren't using fixed weapons, it's a little bit lose-lose because projectile weapons are kind of obnoxious to use in underbelly hardpoints due to the limited tracking angle. It's not as bad in a maneuverable ship like the fdl, but if your target is making hard turns you might find that the arc which lets you shoot with all of your weapons at once is pretty narrow.
