Ya know, I don't think Rises was all Nolan's fault. I haven't played it but the writer for the Dark Knight Trilogy also worked on one of the Call of Duty Black Ops games and I heard there is essentially another Bane in that game; noble revolutionary on the surface but secretly just wanting to burn everything to the ground in reality.

people sure do get peeved about a videogames guy talking about...things happening in videogames I get taking issue with the actual content or presentation of stuff (he does lean towards the sensationalist-presenting, angry-shouty indignation at faceless corporation end of the spectrum), but just complaining about covering ongoing issues is weird.

Well, if he's going to try and keep a spotlight on that poo poo, then I'm happy that he's doing it. Stirling's a good person to have active, thinking about the gamergate bullshit from years past he's seems like one of the few people who actually did try to have 'ethics in games journalism', and he managed to do it without being a big racist, sexist dipshit! Wow! He's also clearly and openly putting on act a lot of the time with his persona, I think people ought to pick on that more when he's exclaiming 'thank god for me' and posting footage of himself in shiny purple bodysuit badmouthing the crowd before getting into a wrestling match. khwarezm fucked around with this message at 02:14 on Feb 15, 2018 |

a medical mystery posted:Xenophobia based more specifically on ethnicity has always been a thing but the idea of races that span these ethnicities and consequently racism is in comparison a pretty recent phenomenon. The concept of "whites vs. others" wasn't fully established as a legitimization of hierarchy, slavery, and cheap labor until colonial Virginia. the idea of race didn't develop until the age of sail, where dumbass europeans could move across large swathes of the earth and notice vast differences in phenotype, which they turned into the stupid idea of there being 5-6 races of humanity based on continent. in reality, phenotypic variation is so gradual if you actually take it all in, say if you walked from portugal to japan, you would be hard-pressed to divide all the types of variation you saw into discrete races of humanity. and speaking of kingdom come: deliverance, vavra is a big time racist and anti-sjw type you can easily see from his twitter feed. his racist and sexist ideology has clearly been injected deep into his game, where all-white medieval europe is authentic where in reality the concept of white didn't exist and ethnicity was always in flux, there was a lot more that determined what community you belonged to than what you looked like. also the racist representation of cumans, i haven't played the game but historically steppe tribes like cumans and avars weren't mortal enemies of native whites or anything, in fact there was a lot of mixing between basically everyone in the region despite how we would ethnically classify them today, and people could switch their group membership, as can be told by burial goods and more evidence, there was a whole ton of cultural mixing, and more mixing than inter-group warfare. after all, many of these groups just ended up assimilated into the locals, look at old examples like huns, bulgars and many more.

It took four years for online poker to get shutdown nationwide here and it's taking a similar length of time for the online sports betting to get shutdown, but eventually the money of big casino will work to remove all forms of online gambling.

Or go to the War Thunder free to play model. The key is having a solid game with no restrictions in place to hamper non paying players. The only thing premium currency can do that regular game currency cannot is buy special vehicles that often have downsides to balance them out, or to max out pilot stats, which really don't matter considering how fast you die if you get cornered.

Well considering that most of his skits, if he has them, tend to be five seconds at the start of the video before he dives into the actual topic that just seems pointless and petty. Jeez, some goons always act like massive hipsters about stuff like this.

I'm not familiar with War Thunder but that doesn't sound all that great either, TBH. Idgi, if pilot stats don't really matter why pay to max them out? Either it's bad for the game or it's bad for the people buying into it. And I'm leery of restricted access to sidegrades ever since TF2 utterly failed to make a compelling case for the concept; does the base game evolve much at all or does it mostly get reserved for new premium stuff? I feel like me and Jim are just about on the same wavelength w/r/t MTX judging from his Warframe vids. If you want to fairly price additional (non-gameplay-related) goodies and sell them to me and I give you the money and then I get exactly what you were advertising and I get exactly what I want...then no harm, no foul. At worst we quibble about the price. But if you need to hide everything in gamble boxes, or restrictive bundle schemes, or currency shenanigans, or gimmicks, or limited availability, or basically anything that isn't just a simple transaction then gently caress off. I'm actually considering throwing my hat in with video game discussion and am writing up a script discussing Planetside 2. Its a free to play MMOFPS, everything minus cosmetics and xp boosts can be bought with in game currency, and xp comes in at a good rate in my opinion that you don't really feel like you're being held back by not paying cash. Not only that but the majority of infantry weapons are either side grades or specializations from the default guns with some exceptions that its serviceable to stick with them while you rack up experience to buy different guns. Even then since there are multiple classes you technically start with multiple weapons already. On top of that, should you decide to pay cash for a gun or cosmetic its... you know.... Not random.

And I'm leery of restricted access to sidegrades ever since TF2 utterly failed to make a compelling case for the concept; does the base game evolve much at all or does it mostly get reserved for new premium stuff? Pilot stats determine stuff like how long a pilot can sustain a high G turn before blacking out, how many Gs they can pull, and how far they can see enemies at and target them. The stuff about G forces is only a difference in milliseconds to juuuust last in a high G maneuver a bit longer. The sight range only applies to when you can target them. If you use your mark one eyeball you can still spot enemy planes on the map from miles away. Essentially, pilot stats give you a tiny endurance edge that can easily be countered by outflying your opponent. And the ingame non premium currency is enough to get your pilots to a decent level without ever needing to spend gold. The premium planes also regularly get discounted and there are frequent events where completing game tasks will give you certain premium planes as rewards. The premium planes are also balanced so they're not overpowered and can be beaten with better flying. Their main bonus is their reward bonus. They are nn premium currency printers when flown right

Like, in the context of the movie's universe of people picking virtual avatars, there's obviously going to be people picking characters and vehicles from fiction that really do not support the idea of how cool it would be to be some mass dealer of death like Iron Giant, Gundam, Evangelion. It's not like that's the actual Iron Giant from the movie there.
