I don't know how quickly his forces on Jaluit consume supplies but if he can just sneak a few ships in then he can probably keep up the struggle until the Allies inevitably collapse like they always have on the island. He'd have to use proper cargo ships of course, there's no way that the fast destroyer transports could possibly keep Jaluit supplied long enough to hold out until help arrives.

It might be worth a shot even for gamey "let's lock AI strategy on that useless atoll for another month" reason.

The Allies have a ton of materiel rolling off the production lines, I wouldn't be shocked if we saw the troops on the island reinforced.

I guess the way to look at it is: Grey has a lot of lovely islands that contribute basically nothing to his war effort Grey has more than enough infantry to cram every island the Allies might attack to the brim Grey doesn't have many ships to spare It doesn't make sense to risk a bunch of a rare resource to save a common resource. There's no good reason to spend effort on a risky supply run to Jaluit, when you can have a basically riskless mission to reinforce the next island the Allies will assault.

We trade hits. Once through the destroyer screen, the I-4 becomes a national hero. That buys me a couple more months of breathing room. Their air wing hits us hard. My men continue to fight heroically, but they are losing. Liberators continue to crash around Rabaul. Two torpedoes in an Essex class is unlikely to sink her, but I can dream. The reports had engine damage, so there is a chance on of the other subs in the area will finish the job. Of course, that's not what I'm having the propaganda wing tell everyone!

So they went in, attacked the destroyer screen, slunk off, and then came back for the carrier. Balls of steel on that crew.

None of those destroyer captains are ever getting a promotion again. And nor should they. That's nine destroyers who couldn't stop a single submarine from landing two hits on a fleet carrier.

Our men on Jaluit did not need this at all. My initial thoughts are that that is a bad place to have a fire. They are getting better with their depth charges. We are entering the final days of the battle. Wave after wave of Liberators continue to work Munda over. The runway is nothing but rubble. Rabaul continues to get its visits. We find actual defences and a whole Division in Sining. This is an auto shock attack from crossing the river. I'll wait a few days then begin the real attacks. All those planes destroyed on the ground were at Munda. I just didn't want to show ten near identical screenshots.

aphid_licker posted:Is "Canberra II" in this picture because we sank Canberra I? Because if so. In reality, USS Canberra was renamed after HMAS Canberra was lost at Savo Island. Since WITP doesn’t use nationality identifiers in the shipname, identically named ships are given a II. She’d be Canberra II even if Canberra is still around.
