Would it be possible to accelerate and drive away from the fire, or once your car is engulfed will your engine die due to lack of available O2?

It could die, but if the fire just started it may not have burned all the oxygen yet. You'd want to be hard as gently caress on the gas too, if the oxygen is lower the engine could run worse.

I did this to a deer in my first car. It was an 80's volvo though so all it did was break the headlight cause those things are loving brick shithouses.

So a crane collapsed yesterday: Unfortunately the woman in the car was killed. The crane was manufactured in 1984 - is that normal for this kind of equipment?

A crane's most natural state is fallen down which they try to manage by making anything underneath no-go and anything around essential people only.

The old friction cranes were built like literal tanks. You can abuse the poo poo out of them and as long as you replace the friction pads, linkage pins, cable and keep the rust down they'll run near forever. Until you wear through a pin and the boom falls to the ground. They're easier to work on then hydraulic cranes too. Replacing the piston seals on an extension cylinder in an 85 ton crane is the biggest pain in the rear end. I'd rather spend all day hammering on frozen linkage pins then do that.

Don't Ask posted:So a crane collapsed yesterday: Those lattice booms are made up of multiple sections that are pinned together, which is why it fractured and bent like that. There's two possible ways I could see that happening: 1. The boom was overloaded and at least one connection between boom sections broke, causing the whole thing to collapse. 2. It's an old friction crane rather than hydraulic, and the operator didn't brake while booming down and caused it to go into free fall. In both cases, the fact that the boom is segmented caused it to bend and break under stress until parts are landing at a 90 degree angle from the crane.

One time driving to work on the freeway I just happened to look in my rear-view mirror to see a deer jump out in front of a semi. It exploded in the weirdest way, the legs and head just flew away like they were Poochie going home and the torso looked like it turned inside out. It was surreal seeing a animal not quite vaporize and probably ruin that truckers day.

He panic braked and managed to stop just in front of it. Then it freaked out and jumped straight into his car anyway, denting the front fender. Stupid fuckers.
