People just don't want to buy an American import, when they can have a higher-spec Euro Ford or Peugeot or Opel or Renault or Japanese import (with their reputation for reliability) at the same price instead, or a Korean import at a lower price. They were trying to avoid the problem of metal coming off the brakes sticking to an external sensor(which are magnetic) and loving up the ABS pulses, but ended up causing your gripe instead.

If you are near DC, WTOP has hd 103.5-3 called the gamut. Just endless music, no fixed genres and no commercials. It is fantastic if you want bill Monroe followed by REM then Mos Def.

Well AKSHUALLY ships would prefer not to have a steering casualty at sea either as a stopped vessel is burning money like mad, and many popular routes even at sea are busy and risk of collision is still present. Still, good catch.

Every 'world car' that an American manufacturer tries to put out seems to die horrible deaths in the US. So tiny, such liddle engines. I had a Saturn LS, which was a modified Opel. There's a lot of Spanish-language AM in New Mexico, I believe in Southwestern states when an AM station is sold it is frequently converted to a Spanish-language talk/music format because there's a large and growing market. As someone who doesn't speak Spanish, I'd rather they became low-rent independent English-language music stations but let's be real, I only tune through the AM band about once a month.

I used to listen to "oldies" stations when I was in 8th grade or so, but they all started to fade out a few years after that. This would have been the early 2000s. Except for KDSK as I mentioned in this thread, I haven't really come across a station with the traditional "oldies" format (pretty firm cutoff of not playing anything past 1970) in quite a few years. I assume it's due to the target audience dying off.

Here's an interesting thing I acquired recently. A Facit CA2-16, one of the most advanced desktop electromechanical calculators ever made. These were manufactured during the 1960s and were the culmination of Facit's development in calculating machine technology. They look quite nice internally, too.  The problem with these machines is that they were made just before the transistor and smaller electronics took the market by storm. In that sense the CA2-16 took the wrong fork in the path of computing history and became obsolete almost immediately. I've been wanting to get a hold of one of these marvels for years now, and it's currently sat in my living room.

I think I missed "audio quality chat" but did want to throw this in: I remember when Tidal was first announced; I was genuinely excited to hear that we were going to make the first decisive step forward in a long time in terms of audio quality. I'd thought CDs were top poo poo for a long time (after moving from vinyl to cassette and not having the money for reel-to-reel - christ I'm old) but had my mind blown by hearing a few DVDs from the early 2000s with DTS encoding. Think The Eagles' Hell Freezes Over and Santana's Supernatural. So imagine my disappointment when it turns out that Tidal was just "better encoded CD quality". Am I wrong in thinking that there was something much better about DTS' quality, or was it just that those discs had been mastered really well? If I remember correctly, DTS does have better dynamic range (among other technical differences). And why did we decide that CD-DA was as good as we would ever get?
