Might be a better one for the NMS forum but I'll check here first. I'm bad with musical genres, to the point that the best I could do to identify this is "techno" or maybe "electronica" :downs:. Any useful terms or genres I could use on Spotify to look for more like this (maybe something a little less intense)? The Radio function doesn't work on this song for some reason, hence my confusion.

hard trance or hard house (the latter being a weird misnomer)

I would just look up trance, I can't recommend much because I hate that genre but try Armin van Buuren or something

There was a cute optimistic comic about the future that I read once that went something like this:

the comic posted:

Kid:Why do I need a shot, Daddy? It's just cancer.
Dad:Just hold my hand and it'll be over quick. (Reminisces internally and tearfully about how happy he is that medicine can finally cure cancer)

Does anyone know where I can find it?

I'd recommend you just straight up read Capital and The Communist Manifesto. You're a grownup and they're available all over the place for free.

To answer your question:

Mechanics would be part of the proletariat unless they're also the owners of a shop, in which case they're part of the petit bourgeoisie, which is a higher class of proletariat that benefits from capitalism and so protects it even though it's not in their best interests. If they own a whole chain of shops, or they just employ mechanics, they're part of the bourgeoisie, or capitalists.

Marxism has a couple of parts. One is the economic argument. It basically goes like this:

A worker produces $4/day of sprockets. For this she is paid $2 by the capitalist, the owner of the sprocket factory.
The capitalist maintains the machines and stuff but at the end of the day still pockets $1 in profits.
The capitalist has produced nothing here and it would make most sense for the workers to simply control the sprocket factory and take the profits for themselves, each netting $3 after maintenance and whatever. The workers also get to control whether their factory moves to Mexico and such.

The second part is more complicated and talks about classes of society. It breaks down like this:

Capitalists (the bourgeoisie) own capital and most of the wealth in society. Capital is used by workers (the proletariat) to produce things. This is factories, land, etc that is commonly referred to as the "means of production".
The capitalists have a profit motive, which means that they're interested in paying workers only enough that the following conditions are met:
1. Workers can stay alive. They can eat and sleep and entertain themselves enough to keep from going mad.
2. More workers are produced and trained at a sufficient rate to replace the workers lost to various causes.
3. (optional, in some cases) Workers can buy what they produce.

This motive puts pressure on the proletariat to constantly produce more with less, living on a razor's edge of starvation, debt, insanity, and so on. Think Dickensian England, which is what inspired Marx in the first place. Or America, I guess.

This also puts pressure on the bourgeoisie to maintain a whole apparatus of control. They need to keep order so that their property is protected and their workers stay in line. This extends to subtle forms of control like sham democracy where workers only have the illusion of power, and sham education where workers only have the illusion of empowerment.

In the end, both bourgeoisie and proletariat are dehumanized and poorer for the whole structure. The proletariat is reduced to an animal state only a little better than slavery, and the bourgeoisie is jealous and suspicious of their fellow man.

Yes. That's producing a service. Yeah they may not be directly building something but they're still doing work in that machines require maintenance. Marxism and whatnot mostly criticize rent seeking or the idle ownership class that make money by having their name on a piece of paper. Fixing machines, cars, computers, or whatever is still a skill and a thing that needs done.

Think back to the sprocket factory example; let's assume a machine shop that fixes machines. Let's say that fixing a sprocket machine typically takes $100 of materials and tools. That cost will never go away so the minimum cost is $100. If the going rate for the labor is $50 that's $150 of cost. Now, if it's owned by the guy fixing the machines he'll probably ask for $150 as he only needs to cover his own expenses. If there are stockholders or somebody else owning the shop they want profit so the cost goes up. Meanwhile whoever else owns the shop looks at the costs and wants them down so they may very well try to drive the $50 of labor especially down. The profit-seeking owner may very well try to charge $200 for the service; capitalism seeks to maximize profits above all else.

Now let's think of a machine shop where the guy doing repairs owns the business but not the land or building. He needs to pay rent to have a place to do business. That's rent-seeking behavior and another thing Marx criticized. If he wants to run his repair shop but can't acquire land or a building for some reason he has no choice but to rent. He must pay somebody else to even have his shop exist in the first place. Whoever owns the land will frequently get wealth by having their name on a piece of paper somewhere; they aren't actually the ones producing using said land. A common issue under capitalism is that the wealthy own everything that matters and use that to extract wealth from people who need to use it.

The real world is more complex than that of course but that's the basic idea.

Think about say somebody who owns stock in a company but does literally nothing to make the company profitable. The company is expected to pay dividends to all stock holders be they productive or not. This person is not earning money by doing something; this person is getting money by virtue of having their name on a piece of paper. Whoever works for the company is ultimately producing wealth for that person and hence some of their labor is being stolen from them.

edit: I think more simply speaking a machine counts as wealth in the end; it's a thing that exists. If you maintain a machine it lasts longer and does what it does longer. Machines amplify wealth by allowing individuals to be more productive. A person that maintains machines and extends how long they can be used is thus generating wealth. Aside from that machines generally produce wealth; more machines generally means more productivity. Repairing machines isn't directly producing stuff but it's part of the process of producing stuff so yes fix it people are in fact producers.

I'm not a road guy, but I'll take a stab at it.

If its completely dirt, try adding in some gravel, or small rocks to give it more structure. See if you can get a compacter to compact down the potholes that form as compacted dirt has more strength and would be more resistant to pulling out. Also don't just fill in the hole itself, cut out a slightly bigger area than the hole like a a bigger square around it and fill it up, as the hole itself has a weak bond, you would be trying to tie the new repair back into the stronger soil.

Thanks, I have tried just using dirt from other places in the yard (i made a huge garden that I replaced the original with good topsoil) and also tried small sized stone fill but the dirt turns to mud and gets all over and the stones don't stay in the holes. I was thinking maybe going with a larger sized stone would work better than the small stuff.

Here are some pics of what it looks like. After a good rain or when the snow melts the big area gets to be a huge puddle.

The drive is a two track which is fine but there are some big depressions there too.

You definitely need gravel if you don’t want it to turn into mud when it rains. You will never solve this problem using only dirt.

You can troubleshoot it a couple of ways. Here’s what I would do:

First, run it through windows troubleshooter. Just right click the drive in your notification tray and troubleshoot.

Second, try reinstalling the drivers for the drive from the manufacturer. Or plug it into another machine.

Third, run checkdisk from CMD.

Fourth, pull the drive apart and take off the usb-sata controller bit and try a different one to see if that part is broken.

Fifth, boot up Linux (or find a friend with a Mac or something) and check the drive with fsck. This is probably not going to work, but worth a try.

If that doesn’t work, you can try imaging the drive and mounting the image to grab the data but the thing is probably just broken. These things happen.

Bleak Gremlin
If it's a spinning drive and it seems to be actually dead-dead, you might get away with leaving it in the freezer overnight in a ziplock bag, then plugging it in. If there's a problem with the platter bearings or the read/write arm then getting them really cold could possibly give them enough clearance to work for a little while to get any critical data off it.

Better would be to chain some cords together to have it actually in the freezer while you try to get it to work, but again, this is a Hail Mary play that has a very very real chance of doing nothing. If I hadn't seen it briefly resurrect a drive that had a friend of mine's Masters thesis on it (he had other backups but there was still a solid 12-15 hours of work he'd need to redo) then I wouldn't believe it myself, because of how ridiculous the whole thing sounds.

While I understand this is usually just laziness, what I want to know is, do people that write like this ignore punctuation when reading? And if they do, is there reading comprehension non existent?

I used to suspect there were people who did not see punctuation in school when they made us read out loud. There would always be some kids who never paused and I always wondered if they didn't register or were just trying to get finished as soon as possible.

The default iPhone keyboard does not have punctuation on the main view with the letters. You have to switch to a second view with numbers and punctuation and no letters, even to put in a period. That's probably the reason you're seeing that.

It's very unlikely that there's any large amount of people who just don't see/pay attention to punctuation, because that sort of person probably would also have issues with letters and numbers and thus not be able to read at all, or have to spend a long time doing so.

On iPhones (I think Android devices too nowadays) double space = period.

A lot of people, and this includes high salaried executives, used to type emails with no punctuation even back in the days before email was almost exclusively typed on phones. Smartphones have made it worse but terrible written communication didn't start in 2007.

There’s another thing where some people intentionally omit it since punctuation/grammar/etc is seen as a thing specific social classes do and people want to differentiate themselves from it.
