I like it. It kind of falls apart towards the end but its a solid little piece with a good cast that doesn't really do anything different but mostly does it well. A well done B movie.

It's the kind of movie that makes good actors seem bad, because Turturro's performance is goofy as hell. It's also bottom tier King, and retreads ground already covered far better in The Dark Half. I mean...

Yeah, I'm a huge King fan, but it's straight-up a retread of The Dark Half, but less engaging.

I watched The Dark Half in the last few months and it is actually probably the most underrated King adaptation. I had not actually seen the rated R version on the edited for TV version.

Lurdiak posted:Yeah and my point is: if you're going to make a movie "retelling" the magnificent 7, don't call it the magnificent 7 and don't use the same names for the central characters. That's literally all I ask. I mean, if you're conscious of the fact that you're making an unoriginal story, isn't changing the names just pretense? It seems a silly thing to care about.

He is a lovely self-centered writer and he acts like one, and then you find out he's a lot worse than that.

Nothing great but it's a good Dawn of the Dead '04 knockoff and Timothy Olyphant is a good horror lead. El Gallinero Gros posted:Are the overtones/political aspect as blatant? Definitely not.

Lisztomania is a horror movie, right? of course it is. https://i.imgur.com/ZbWbI9O.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/oeU7jD9.mp4 I've watched Altered States and Lair of the White Worm, I guess I'll follow this up with Tommy or The Devils. Or Gothic, or The Boy Friend, or... I don't know, there's too many Ken Russell movies, and they're probably all just as crazy.

I'm about to watch Frontiers for the first time (on Shudder), the extreeeeeeeme gore horror stuff isn't really my jam (I think the only French horror I've seen was Livide, which was almost more surreal/fantasy in a way) so uhhh I'm probably gonna regret this

I somehow remembered Screamers being ok from many years back, but upon rewatch it's only barely passable. I might have mixed it up with that robot monster on a boat movie.

Virus is awesome and I'll fight people over it being "bad". It has JLC in it and Sutherland as the bad guy. Plus it has CGI but also a lot of decent practical effects.

You and I line up like, 99% of the time, but Virus is baaaad. I rewatched it around a year ago, and the practical effects don't hold up nearly as well as you might think. It's really wonkily paced and although the effects are good in concept they lack a lot in actual practical execution.
