Perhaps more common are Eames airport slings which are very comfy for as simple as they are (basically some lightly padded vinyl slung across a metal frame).

Years ago when I first started collecting records I got a really trash tier Medion turntable built for digitalizing records and cassette tapes. I fixed my mistake soon after but now I got the bright idea to transfer all my records onto cassette and buy a walkman. Problem is, the manual assumes you're not stupid enough to do that, and only talks about transferring from physical to digital, not from physical to physical or digital to physical. Anyone know if my Medion MD 83906 will let me record onto a cassette from my records or my PC? If not, what do I need for that dream to become real? Edit: It looks like it can't do that, I phoned up medion support and they said the record button wasn't for that. I don't know the operation of that whatever combo TT that thing is, but if you can't do it internally, then what you need to do this get a cheap used cassette deck like https://this, (check thrift stores and you'll probably find one for around $10-20) then run the RCA line-outs from your turntable to the tape deck's line-ins*. Put tape in slot, start record, hit record on cassette deck. Wait for side to finish, turn over record and tape, start record, hit record on cassette deck. *if your turntable only has phono outs you'll need to either get a tape deck with phono ins (IE a built-in preamp) or put a preamp between the two, which will add another $50-100 to the cost and make it pointlessly expensive imo. e: Just realized that it's German. I'm not really sure about the phono out / phono in thing but I have an audiotechnica AT-LP60 which has regular red and white RCA output (that's what RCA is right, the red and white cables?) Will any old tape player work? I found some pretty cheap ones but I don't know if they're too old.

Just looked up some pictures on ebay and that should work for you, assuming the machine itself is still in working order. You'll want to use the RCA line-ins on the back of the unit; the ones on the front are 1/4" and are designed to receive a much quieter signal.

I saw a weird thing at Goodwill today. Someone took a lovely Soundesign receiver/cassette deck and cut off the cassette part, then made a custom wood housing using pieces of a table or something. I almost wanted to buy it just to see what the inside looks like. And it also came with home-made speakers!

Vinyl newbie here, I just brought a ION Max LP found it was trash and returned it to Amazon (short version, speed was off. Found speed adjustment to be impossible so I gave up). I'm looking at the Audio-Technica LP60 as a replacement, but this is all new to me so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. While I'm waiting for the refund are there any other turntables I should consider? I'm looking in the £150 range

Even then, you can probably pick up a far superior USB TT second-hand on eBay. At the price point you're looking at, all the USB TT's from major manufacturers are all essentially identical inside and made by the same Taiwanese company and rebadged. Between all of them, I guess the LP60 or the Pioneer 990 may be slightly nicer. People in this thread are pretty qualified to give eBay a quick trawl and look for good deals for you if you're interested in that option.

I don't really care about the USB stuff, I'm just looking for something I can plug into my sound system (I was feeding the ION into the AUX in on my Sony HT-RT4) and listen to so records I brought on a stupid whim. Like I said, this is all new to me some I don't know what to look for. If anyone is kind enough to look on ebay UK and point me towards something decent enough in my price range I'd be ecstatic.

I used to have an Optonica 7100 that was listed in the above post, I really liked it. Has an extra sensor mounted by the stylus to do track detection. I think I gave mine to my housemate when I emigrated, sad I couldn’t take it with me!

It's pretty high end gear that's relatively forgotten, especially the 9100 stuff, but that's really rare. Nowadays, their only well known thing is their vertical record players (VZ-2500, VZ-3000). For example, I'd be tempted by the AKAI (due to looks, extra functionality, a brand I generally trust), but I can see it has a proprietary cartridge. And I can't even see any cartridges for sale right now if I ever needed to replace it, so what about in five years? May not even be able to find it, or it'll cost me like £50-60 delivered from Japan or some poo poo.

Got my orbit in today. Set it up in a couple minutes and it fits perfectly in the shelf under my TV opposite the receiver. Looks great, sounds great, super simple to set up. I might invest in either a cue lever or one of those things that pops up the needle when it hits the end of a record because it's a bit cramped to have to reach into a shelf to handle the tonearm. I can lift the dust cover enough to be able to swap records and control everything though, and if I'm going to be playing a bunch of stuff I can pop the whole thing off pretty easily. I'm really pleased having gone with a lower profile TT. Thanks to whoever through out that recommemdation.

This week I made a video on a Grundig EN3 dictation recorder. Odd little vintage piece of gear with a 1/4" reel-to-reel tape cartridge.
