Yeah, it was as close a reference as they can make without showing him outright. The costume was basically the same with a couple color changes.

Didn't the colour changes make what we saw look like Captain Marvel Jr.? I assume not intentionally, but I'm still amused.

New THR article on Fox’s Marvel plans has some interesting tidbits, including BKV developing a Silver Surfer movie and X-Force seemingly confirmed as the dated-but-unrevealed November 2019 Fox Marvel release (as it’s slated to begin production by the end of the year).

I still don’t expect anything to exit development hell before the merger clears, save for X-Force and Gambit, and very likely not even the latter given that it’s already been through three directors.
New Mutants is also adding a new character through the reshoots they are doing

Yeah, Freddy was called Shazam when he took over, but Billy was still the former Captain Marvel, until New 52.

Star Trek Beyond did it and if you didn't know who it was you couldn't tell. This sounds more significant but it's really hard to say based on a single line in an article.

Justice league took a page out of the Avengers movies and aimed to make everyone as bland and inoffensive as possible, so I wouldn't judge the character by that metric.

Game of thrones....? I think that's the only thing his fans remember him from. And there's a series on my region's netflix with him as a lead but I haven't watched it, so I dunno how good is his acting in reality.

Game of Thrones really only required him to strut around and growl in an unintelligible fantasy language. It played to his strengths; his good looks and physicality. His acting, that I’ve seen, is only kind of so-so. But, to be fair, I’ve never seen him in anything remotely challenging.

For a really long time I thought Antz was a Seinfeld thing. It's actually the Woody Allen one and I have no idea if Dreamworks thought getting an all-star voice cast (seriously, in addition to Allen that movie has Stallone, Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Christopher Walken and more) would somehow make it more competitive against A Bug's Life, because I'm pretty sure kids don't really care about voice actors.
