I want everyone to recognize another pitfall with their "bind culling". Here's the simplest one. They've sold ships on the capability of having long range detection capabilities. They even have a deep space telescope module for one of their ships.

How do you cull things a nominal distance away from most players, while still accommodating long range sensors?

Good luck, CIG programmers.

https://giant.gfycat.com/HeavyEntireAcornweevil.webm

I really wish CIG was able to figure out the basics so we could have watched them struggle with the plethora of promises CR made.

At the end of the day even I assumed they'd have at least gotten out of the gate before their race horse died. We will probably never see them have to tackle genuinely difficult tasks, and when and if they ever get a game running at 20-30 FPS with a few people in it and nothing to do people will claim it as the second coming.

I was looking forward to seeing them struggle with the news van and passenger liner and farming ship and the science modules and the complicated repair system.... but no. We'll never see that stuff. :(

Honestly by now I figured they'd have ok trading and rudimentary mining in place and kind of functioning. Oh well, I'm a dumb chump.

You guys are probably desperate for some space based page taxes, so here I am exploring the galaxy. I figure some day CIG will catch up to my old rear end but apparently not today.

This really is the most amazing part of CIG's phenominimal development approach.

They have nothing to show. It's just a rudimentary Cryengine mod that runs very poorly, and is becoming increasingly worse.

And yet nothing can stop it. It's idiots all the way down. Never underestimate the stupidity of Citizens in large pods.

This just got me thinking that there's a nonzero chance that by now or at some point the owners of Star Citizen will have to take it out back and shoot it :smith:

It took them half a loving decade to realize that their MMO can't send data about every player to every other player all the time, that it will need some sort of culling mechanism, and they found this out by releasing a completely broken shitshow of a patch; it just did not occur to any one of their 400+ employees before this

To be fair, probably it probably did occur to all 400+ "employees". The only one who didn't figure it out was the thumb in charge. Thumb boy probably sees network culling as a threat to his fidelitah and forbid its implementation until he had no choice.

I'm not sure everyone noticed that was a post about E:D. The tip off should've been the fact that it's been fixed. Regardless, it's about a minor graphical problem that's been in the game since release.
