with a bear.

One reason I'm not too bothered by stuff being a little rough is because Fatshark's history suggests they will consistently work to improve ratfight based on the information they get from ratfighters.

Also because I really want to fight rats.

If you're getting that backend error, like I did (bloody ratmen), verifying integrity of the game cache via steam fixed it for me - hopefully you too!

When you're in a town like this all covered with smoke, you forget that there's a world outside. Nothing amazing happens here. And you get used to that, used to a world where everything is ordinary. Every day we spend here is like a whole lifetime of dying slowly.

it just worked on a whim for us, watched the intro video and everything and then once we set the graphics settings and restarted, back to the backend error. So just dumb luck it turns out right now. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

Those people kept Vermintide alive and kicking long enough for latecomers like me to show up and become strong fans, and pushed Fatshark to support the game in relentlessly positive ways, so I dunno oftentimes they raise very good points even if sometimes I personally think they forget why 99% of the playerbase played 3 levels, got owned, and went "this game sucks" and stopped as I almost did.

I found VT1 tedious beyond reason but I've already sunk twenty hours into what was probably a worse version of the first game. That's not necessarily a diss on old school ratterists who think there are some fundamental design problems with the second game; even I can recognize some of these things are sequel changes for no good reason.

I expect to put quite a few hours into a game which will have a markedly better version in several months which I then put more hours into.

there's no dissonance here. the hardcore rattists have identified things that are not going to scale well and/or be confusing but still saying they'll play the game. literally nobody is saying that it won't work/is broken/whatever the hell else people are prattling on about.

The single most important thing imo is being aware of your surroundings so you don't take unnecessary damage. Here's a good short guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vermintide/comments/80l4db/how_to_avoid_damage_a_short_summary_for_defense/

I'm in, the keep looks pretty drat different to start and obviously all the [PLACEHOLDER TEXT] stuff is gone from random junk, it's looking like only three maps for this again unless they progressively show up, I'm starting with only Against the Grain unlocked, then two next to it covered in chains.

Is there a reason why they have you run the really hard mission with basic gear rather than give you the same three as the last beta? That Rat Ogre is not going to get killed with 5 power weapons on top of all the other poo poo the AI director throws at you.

Well after upgrading my computer to one roughly twice as good, vermintide 1 ran very noticeably worse for me with stuttering all over the place, so there's probably still some technical snafus with certain setups

Different snafus, since the beta ran like a dream for me

How are you supposed to play the dwarf at the very beginning? I feel totally impotent as him. I feel like I don't do any damage, and the only thing I'm good for is giving people paltry amounts of ammo when we kill a special. Is it just "suffer through the first 7 levels until you unlock Ironbreaker"? I've tried using different weapons but the don't seem to make a lot of difference, except for the pickaxe that is armor piercing.

Does this “beta” function as an early release or are we still stuck with the non working story mode and same three missions from the previous beta? Sorry if that’s been stated, I haven’t seen it anywhere and I’m stuck at work for the night.

This has not been my experience at all. I can try troubleshooting. Please do not be offended, I have no idea what your level of experience is with the game.

* Is your Bardin plugged in and if so, is he turned on?
* What is your total hero power with everything equipped?
* When you say 'impotent', do you mean you are having difficult killing basic clanrats? If so, are you aiming for the head? Are you charge-attacking?
* If you are charge-attacking, how long are you holding the button down for? You don't need to hold down the button longer than it takes to pull your weapon all the way back, the game lets you hold it longer to help with timing, not for additional damage.
* Which enemies specifically are you having difficulty with?
* Remember that armored enemies actually take no damage or minimal damage from left-click attacks so you have to charge it for a second if you want to hit stormvermin and the like.

All the characters do podunk damage early on but Bardin is quite good regardless.

Number of targets penetrated being linked to power goes a long way to explaining why the starting crossbow felt so extremely anemic.

I'm used to the 'gently caress this guy and the 5 guys behind him' VT1 crossbow.

Thanks for this! My experience with the game is that I played through all of the first one on normal with a group of friends, then they all left for other things and I fell off of the game as well. Maybe a total of 15-20 hours into it? That is a total guess. I only got to level 7 in the closed beta of VT2.

* My total hero power was 80 - 90 I think. All grey items except my weapon. My loot boxes were terrible.
* By impotent, I meant that it takes me 2-3 hits to kill basic clan rats, even though I'm aiming for the head. It looked like other characters were just looking at enemies and they died. Maybe I was doing something wrong.
* I did know that you could hold the charge attack way longer than needed. Should I be mostly charge attacking? The time I felt the most useful when when I was playing with a hammer + shield, and just pushed everything down and let my team do the murdering. Is the shove + follow up swing charge attack especially weak?

They removed the city map with the temple of Sigmar and replaced it with a village map, so we at least get one map of variety. I still don't get the map limit poo poo if they're keeping progress and this is the release client... Everyone playing has already paid for the game, all they have to do is flip a switch next week since we're on the release build, and there's no way to test a lot of stuck bugs on 9 or so maps without letting people play them before release.
