It's March, time for a new and not so improved chat thread....! RULE FOR THE MONTH Due to the cost of producing new threads, If you score a first post on a new page, you must pay for the Pet Toll Road. You are hereby billed one cute picture of a cat or dog in a car. Pay your toll or have your car towed! Remember that these threads cost a lot to build so they are being contracted out to FARTGAS, the Facility for Abnormal Reanl Turbulance, Gastronomical Analysis Station to build and for the convenience of this new chat thread, we have decided that the best pay for it's huge cost is cute picture of pets in cars Post a new page? Pay the toll! Or else..... probably nothing unless Mr Mod decides to have fun with it. But pay your toll anyway and help us afford new chat threads! I just learned that millions of Americans apparently never knew what blackcurrants taste like, because they were banned from being farmed for decades:wikipedia posted:currant farming was banned in the early 1900s, when blackcurrants, as a vector of white pine blister rust, were considered a threat to the U.S. logging industry. The federal ban on growing currants was shifted to jurisdiction of individual states in 1966, and was lifted in New York State in 2003 through the efforts of horticulturist Greg Quinn.

A truly free market should have few, if any, barriers to entry for prospective entrants, and I contend that this rule poses a needless burden on the good men and women of the shitposting industry.

What about a free, government-supplied March chat thread. One that may be of lower quality, but covers everyone who qualifies for the shitposting assistance benefit.

MrChips posted:I think if the chat thread OP makes a stupid as gently caress rule we should be able to vote them a month probation qtiyd We are not taxed well enough to afford good threads. Given the SA coffers are low a small pet toll as set out is a resonable request to provide this vital service to the community of shitposting in that a OP might be created and a months worth of poo poo posting enabled. While in many months the socialist pet tax has been enough it has deemed this time that we must enact this not unresonabe toll being one pet toll for the first poster of each page. Otherwise these threads will deteriorate to become barely coherent reddit level woithout proper maintenance and construction

Welp, it's official, I'm moving to (a suburb of) Austin in August. Rent isn't much more than what I'm currently paying, for a much nicer/much newer place. A bit smaller, but includes a microwave, full size w/d, etc. And only a mile outside of Austin itself. Much of what I currently own will get sold before I move; about all I'll be taking is bedding, clothing, computer, and home theater receiver + speakers. Kitchen stuff too, since I have some really nice dishes, nice knives, etc. What I'm really looking forward to: H-E-B. Also easy access to Kerbey Lane Cafe, their queso is loving awesome. Scared shitless, but it'll be nice to be able to ditch just about everything and move using only my car and a trailer, or maybe the smallest box truck (one way; have gf drive me back to get my car, get a hotel for the night, bring car down). I have a couple of pieces of furniture that I really want to keep (mid century modern dresser and end tables, 00s lamps that go well with them... don't care about any other furniture). If the box truck winds up being spendy, I have a good friend who loves MCM stuff who would probably take the furniture off my hands (and even if she doesn't, this is genuine 50s/60s stuff that's built well, so it shouldn't be hard to move on the local MCM facebook sale groups). randomidiot fucked around with this message at 01:36 on Mar 1, 2018 |

Seems like half the forum is moving! I too am taking the plunge in the next month or so. I’m slightly terrified on the job front, partly because I want to get more of a big boy job and partly because I don’t want to end up doing the same poo poo I’ve been doing for years but might have to just to make ends meet. But hey, you gotta follow your heart right? At least it’ll mean the end this long distance relationship thing, which is dumb and hard. Even seeing each other every couple of weeks or so just isn’t enough, and we haven’t even been doing it for long. I have friends who lived in other countries after they got married due to work and I have no idea how they did it. Phone posting so I can’t pay the pet tax

So, if anyone cares, I got the job I posted about in the last thread. I'm officially an INDUSTRIAL refrigeration tech now! I fly out to their training place in about 2 weeks for a 3 week session. So this should be fun. Been spending all day today doing all their training videos and tests. This is going to be an interesting experience based on what I've seen in the videos so far.

The other part is because of the relationship. I probably sound a bit like a jerk when I mention the relationship is what's allowing me to move there affordably. I can transfer all 3 jobs down there too.

I've just dragged the electric heater from my garage into the house as it appears to have reached -2C inside part of it today (i've got a single storey uninsulated and unheated extension). Its quite interesting how there was ice in the sink, yet the bottled water I have in there stood next to the pipes on the floor is still liquid. bolind posted:Oh yeah one of those days. I'd bet that the 4.6 trades HP for torque over the Vulcan, plus the ones in Crown Vics and whatnot are pretty conservatively tuned for long life, I imagine. Mustang got a bit more out of the same engine, and even more out of the DOHC version. If it'll stop raining, looking forward to replacing the rear engine/transaxle mount on the wife's Kia, and the brake master cylinder on the AE86 this weekend. Perhaps then her car will stop axle hopping under brisk acceleration (and making a knocking noise while doing so - most disconcerting) and the Crayolla will actually stop with some urgency. I should also probably crawl up into the attic and figure out where the roof leak is. Thanks to all the rain lately, I've been treated to a "plop" above the ceiling in the living every minute or so. Probably coming in around the vent stack for the heater. Hopefully some asphalt sealer or new flashing will take care of it. edit: still first page, but paying my share anyway: Darchangel fucked around with this message at 15:57 on Mar 1, 2018 |
