I liked it enough 10 years ago when I first watched it. The dead brother in the Army was weird though, and I probably will never watch it again.

The gross sliding of the last stack of pancakes was the only funny part to me.

Also that is definitely Moana at the end.

I can just picture that scene now. Ralph WRECKS a door, panicked. He confronts a woman at the desk, which has the Norton Antivirus logo on it. The woman directs her to a virtual Dr Norton, who tries to explain the situation to the confused Ralph. Then we see Ralph approach a bed, a sad look on his face as he sees Venellope lying there in pain.

I mean it is the 10th anniversary.

i like the trailer but Flo-Rida - Good Feeling (2012) in a 2018 movie is a really weird choice

nah, that was pretty much patient zero. Scala and Kolacny Bros have basically made a career out of doing that Creep cover over and over again

I would actually trace that trend back to the 2006 "Mad World" ad for Gears of War, but The Social Network is the first time I can recall a movie trailer using such a cover.

Pretty sure the Gary Jules version of Mad World was used in a movie trailer some time between Donnie Darko and 2006, but I couldn't name it now.

I'm pretty sure it was prominent in the first Wreck-It Ralph, so I guess it's just a weird bit of pointless branding

I mean, people in prison do work out a lot

It's certainly not Mann's best film but it's beautifully shot and Tang Wei is :swoon:

blackhat is perhaps the only film yet made that has compelling hacking scenes that really underscore the complexity and fragility of the entire system, and it also has a decent take on the machinations of nation states and how they relate to each other beyond just surface level diplomacy. It very much feels like a spiritual successor to Thief, though slightly more optimistic about it's main characters.

None of Mann's other movies are in the same league as Heat or Collateral. blackhat in particular is frustrating in that it's almost a good movie and the potential was there but there's just a dimension missing from it

Couldn't disagree more. The Insider, Thief, Manhunter, and Mohicans all loving own and are top-tier Mann films. The Insider is Mann's best film.

Ali, Miami Vice, and Blackhat are all at least as good as Collateral.

Public Enemies is decent, and The Keep is...well, The Keep.

I got a coffee-table book on MIchael Mann for free at my college. The library often puts books they don't need on a tray near their door so anyone can take them if they want.

Haven't read it yet, but it looks cool in my bookcase.

I forgot about Mohicans tbh that's a good film. The others in the list are good but don't have the style and depth of Heat and Collateral. Miami Vice is mediocre though, an all style no substance film without his usual flair.
