Nope, it's a specific anime reference and the source character carries the scythe you can see parts of in the pic. It's still retarded and I'll give her something more appropriate like a katana.

Local QLD con is happening, and I'm trying to write Yu Jing lists for it. I'm leaning towards daofei lt, and some guilang to back it up, I'd like to run a hactao and ninja too, but worry that it's making a single order pool very small. How does Neurocinetics interact with Twin Weapons in the active turn? Or does 'burst reduced to 1' always supersede 'plus one to burst'?

Two missile AROs are suuuuper strong. Decent BS and burst 2 paired with Exp ammo means even TAGs and HI are taking a huge risk drawing fire from it.

The Yan Huo neurocinetics profile will completely gently caress up anything that isn't firing through smoke or have TO/surprise. It erases dudes from the table like none other. I think it's the strongest ARO piece, worse than the Sin Eater.

My usual go-to for stopping it as a Bakunin player, the Moira MSR, doesn't even feel good because it's usually b2 12 vs b2 8. If I lose FTF, I'm boned, and even if when I win I'm likely to score just one wound.

EDIT:

The HMRC is just as good as the missile launcher. It's feasible to take two Yan Huo's, so give it a shot. HMRC makes a good lieutenant.

Depends on the job you want it to do. If you already have something kill for active turns, you can pop the missile guy somewhere with a view and blow up nerds. If you need someone to do dirt on your turn, the other two would be good, because burst is important. HMRC is better during active turn, Multi-HMG is a hair better at AROs because its anti-materiel is Exp.

A lot of things in Infinity are less about better/worse and more about synergy in a list/doing a job.

Sure.

There's two ways of looking at Bakunin - a ten-order, hard style list, and a big lovely horde. I'll post one of both.

I think the biggest trap in Bakunin comes from over-concentration. It's really easy to make a list in Bakunin where a bunch of dudes all do the same thing - make a list with +1 SWC Kusanagi, and you will see what I am talking about. Observance units have a huge problem with this; Sin Eaters, Moiras, Healers, Custodiers, and Kusanagi all move in the same way and do approximately the same thing, which is shoot the gently caress out of guys 16-32in away. You can do the same thing with infiltrators, and pour way too many resources into static control of the mid field. You can also go overboard on reactive firepower, but whatever can kill one Sin-eater can also polish off three.

The real problem is that even once you realize this, blending it together doesn't help. A Bakunin list with a reasonable Moira team, Zeroes to hold the mid-field, Sin-eater support, and a Custodier LT is better but still not all that great. You have to think hard about including a variety of units that deploy and act in distinct ways.

Bakunin's big advantage is that you get a lot of value for your points. Good lists leverage that well - in a small list, that means piling on wounds, in a big list it means... well, piling on wounds.

In the first list, you've got four aggressive units (Lizard, Riots, Prowler, and Pi-Well) that all act in different ways and deploy in different areas of the board. This means that regardless of what is going on, you'll have a reasonable tool for the task at hand. It also means that you can take initiative freely, because deployment is no big deal. To detail it out:

- The Lizard starts out hull-down (often as a reserve) and attacks by moving up the edge of the board and bullying whatever it finds.
- The Riot Girls deploy in a good lane and advance to take territory and objectives. They end the turn in a defensive position and are extremely hard to remove.
- The Prowler starts off in the center, looking like a Zero, and counter-attacks whatever goes after the Lizard or the Riot Grrls.
- Pi-well watches a lane and supports whoever needs it.

In the second list, you have a bunch of orders instead of a bunch of tough guys. Your main actors are the Reaktion Zond, the Moira, and the Riot Grrls. The Moira or the Reaktion Zond is the reserve. The goal is to have so many orders that you can execute complicated or monotonous sequences that others cannot. Take it slowly and deliberately, and you'll swallow up the whole board.

- Morlocks advance slowly, taking no risks. They counter attack where needed and get launched like cruise missiles if the opportunity presents. Spend your command tokens converting their irregular orders to fuel the Zond.
- The Reaktion Zond drives around with supportware and climbing + and picks off stragglers. If something goes wrong, Zoe's Zondbot fixes it. End the turn hull-down and make your opponent come after you.
- Moira assassinates difficult models that the rest of the list cannot cope with.
- The Riot Girls deploy in a good lane and advance to take territory and objectives. They end the turn in a defensive position and are extremely hard to remove.
- Pi-well watches a lane and supports whoever needs it.
- Moderators are in case something goes really wrong. B5 is good, no matter what the ballistic skill. Deploy them so they can be linked, but don't actually link them unless you need it.

The pawsting business is tough work.
That was really helpful, thanks. You're exactly right - I'd been taking the Kusanagi link to go bully stuff and a couple of Moderator specialists to go press buttons, some drones and a Sin-eater for flavor, and I never really felt like I was getting my points' worth out of either side of the equation.

Couple of follow-ups -

Am I hallucinating, or is the biggest weakness of the Observance units their weak second move value? Even with a ton of orders and a link team, I never feel like I can get them exactly where I want them on the board.

Do you find yourself with a regular preference for initiative versus deployment? Barring missions where I absolutely want to be the last one scoring, I feel like I've developed a strong preference for one or the other based mostly off what army I'm playing (fast and punchy, go first/Ariadna take deployment, etc), but I don't have a feel for which best benefits Bakunin. I'm starting to suspect they operate on a higher need for context than what I'm used to playing.

I've been taking the fancier hackers for BAK, and it seems like you're running primarily KHDs. Is that more a result of your play style, or something you feel is more of a general good practice for the army as a whole?

That meat-wall list looks pretty fun, too. If I get the chance to try it out, I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe I'll get to play sometime this year. :unsmith:
