Guys, I'm finally doing it! I'm getting a dog!

His name is Tron. I'm bringing him home from the shelter tomorrow. I bought a bunch of stuff for him today. We'll see how the cats adjust to him, but he seems like a very sweet boy. He was raised with cats, so he should be good with them once they get to know each other.

That looks like an extremely excellent boy.

Actually not a fish.

I took some pictures of the beasts with my real camera this week. The baby is looking too much like a real dog now :(

Also I'm not sure pictures have shown just how large Mina is at this point. My mom here is 5'1" and Mina is 4 months old. Mina loves giving kisses so much she forgets that she's not allowed to jump up on people :3:

No pictures, but I'll tell a story about how polite my dachshund Milo was this morning. Usually when he notices that I'm awake he'll come over and lick my hands and dance around a little bit, but this morning I didn't feel like getting up quite yet so I moved around a bit but kept my eyes closed. He came over to investigate me, noticed I was still "resting", went to the foot of the bed and laid down. 5 minutes later he got up, came to check me, saw me still "asleep", went back and laid down. He did this a few more times until he saw me open my eyes and move around and then he was like "Finally!" and started jumping around.

A good dog. He let me stay in bed an extra 20 minutes while he politely waited.

A friend of mine tells a story of an uncle who rescued a cub and kept him as he grew up. The boys of the family would wrestle with the bear as a cub, and he learned that wrestling with men was fun. Fast forward to a grown brown bear, women could enter his pen safely, but men would risk playful flesh wounds in the name of fun.

I'm surprised a bear can tell human men and women apart.

It's usually not hard to teach a cat (or dog) what the limits of play are. For cats, you want to make a short, high pitched squeak/cry, as if you were a kitten in pain. If possible, socially separate yourself from the cat for about 30 seconds just after, don't look at it or respond/interact with it. This isn't always going to work, some pets are just assholes, or have a history of being abused that cannot ever be undone, but if you try to communicate in away a cat will understand, I've found most of them respond really well. :)

Yeah, I'm already doing exactly that, and she's gotten a lot better. Even my hands aren't completely scratched to hell anymore! :)

Holy cow, can we trade? Apollo wants to get up and take me with him, and that includes stepping on me, licking my face, and his current favorite: using his head as a shovel to get me off of my pillow.

Terminology is the same as kangaroos. Adult males are jacks, adult females are jills, young are joeys.

Tron is home!

He's still a little stressed with everything, and not really sure about all this new stuff, but he's starting to settle in.

His previous family got rid of him because he jumps up on people, and they were afraid he'd hurt the baby they had on the way. Which is kind of dumb to me. I already have him jumping on me a lot less, and I've only had him for like four hours.
