So I've been out of the game since 1999 or so. At some point, did they scrap the idea of a white bordered core set with black bordered expansion sets coming out, and eventually expansion cards being rotated into the core set? I randomly bought a few booster packs last week but didn't see anything that looked equivalent to Revised or 4th Edition.

Core sets stopped being white bordered with Tenth edition. The last Core set was Magic Origins in 2015, but they're coming back this summer.

Magic Online is actually a much better viewer experience than anything Wizards does with paper, they just.. like to pretend that's not the case.

I will never watch a paper magic stream for any length of time because it's terrible but have watched mtgo streams no problem

Both are horrible for new players who don't know all the cards by 20,000 ft view (paper) or by the image/first 10 characters of the name (MTGO)

I've seen some paper streams where they have casters pulling up good images of cards being played. I've never seen MTGO streams where we have any way to see card details. If I were playing MTGO I could click the card, but the player isn't going to do that since they are already familiar with it.

Yeah, i'd like to point out that it's specifically an issue with how Wizards handles paper, not paper in general - with accurate support & better camera-work, paper can be pretty fantastic to watch compared to MODO.

Wizards doesn't have that.

Its really not great. Some of its biggest money cards are for a format nobody really plays in paper and are going to crater. The money cards left for modern and edh aren't enough to keep up with msrp for release.

Even if I was excited about this set, which I ain't, I doubt I could talk even a single person at my LGS into shelling out $30 to draft this with me. Iconic Masters pretty much burned that bridge to the ground.
