(Though to be fair I can't remember the last time I actually read the ammo explosion rules.) Radio Free Kobold posted:I think we got an ammo crit on something in the last mission, but I didn't see any mech-ruining ammo explosions. The explosion is based off of how much ammo is left in that bin - since the explosion was late in the fight, it could have hit a mostly empty bin. That said HBS almost certainly toned it down - in tabletop in this era, an ammo explosion basically translates to 'mech vaporized' because even a half-full bin is usually enough to obliterate most things under Assault-class. (A half-full bin of AC5 would be 50 damage - the SHD-2D's side+center torsos only have 52 points between them and that's if it was mint.)

Ammo bins have to be at least half full to blow, and all Mechs essentially have CASE for free

Depending on what parts of tac ops got used, a truck loaded with mg ammo could be a perfectly viable suicide bomb. There's even potential for chain reactions when (not if) it's able to cause further ammo explosions or reactor failures.

MekHQ likes to shower you with civilian vehicles and technicals as monthly bonuses. An MG ammo bomb truck wounds way more useful than another coolant tanker.

Ammo explosions cause splash damage? Oh my god, VBIEDs for battletech. What's the weight constraint? Okay, six tons on a ubiquitous civilian flatbed truck. Truck goes 86km/h. Let's say, three tons of MG ammo for the payload, and three tons of armor all on the frontal arc to ensure payload delivery. What sort of damage and radius would that be? Could we take out mechs with a VBIED or two to the legs? Edit: Hey, there's an armoured variant. Two tons armor and four tons cargo. What does four tons of MG ammo look like when it explodes? Oh you absolutely can't detonate stuff in MekHQ/MegaMek and take out mechs with your own ammo explosions, but you will get a bunch of SRM2s on flatbeds and stuff like that.

Our results for statups are as follows: Lionheart gains a point in Gunnery. Jimmums also gains a point in Gunnery. Screech increases her Guts. Figment increases her Gunnery, and gains a second point in Gunnery for MVP. Figment and Lionheart are now tied for the best shot in the unit! Working quickly, Troy secures the Large Laser, LRM 5 and the wrecks of the Griffin and the Firestarter. With our salvage allowance taken into account, our total salvage debt to ComStar currently sits at: 9,852,279.16 CBills. Guziki tracks down the ComStar Liasion that is assigned to our unit and demands answers. : “What troubles you my son?” : “Cut the act, tell me what is going on here. You gave us bad intelligence and we almost lost the entire lance.” : “The fog of war blankets everything, knowing is half the battle. I promise you commander, I have passed on to you everything that my Acolytes have been able to divine.” : “I said drop the act. If this company is wiped out because you didn’t provide us with the correct information, then who is going to defend you? I don’t believe that you didn’t know that Lance was out there. Just who the hell are we fighting? Pirates are not this well equipped or supplied. And why are they only engaging us out in the wilderness?” : “Watch your tone, mercenary. Do not dare to insult ComStar or question that which you cannot hope to understand. You and your people are here to do a job. If you wish to be paid for your services I expect obediance and professionalism. Be warned that you owe my masters a lot of money, that is something you should be concerning yourself with. Fight where and when I say and you shall be paid well. Question my motives and I will make life difficult for you. Do we have an understanding? If that is all, you are dismissed… Commander.” Meanwhile, the Techs get to work on our Mechs. The first thing that Jack does is attempt to salvage the AC10 from Nasir’s wrecked Urbanmech. He continues to shine and successfully salvages it, which means we can fit a replacement for the Enforcer. The two of them then focus their efforts for the next few days on getting the 3 damaged mechs back to fighting condition, leaving the Enforcer for now. After three days in the Infirmary, Jimmums decides he is fighting fit again. He makes sure that Guziki knows that he is ready for deployment. Troy and Jack are forced to suffer through his presence whenever they work on the ShadowHawk until it is ready. Jimmums doesn’t want to miss whatever is coming next. Somehow I missed screenshots for repairs on the next couple of days, however Nasir and Inspector both heal up over this period. We have finished the majority of the repairs at this point, so Jack and Troy start to work on bringing the Locust up to combat readiness. Most of the company join in with the work. On the 18th, the Liaison visits the company repair facilities and quickly seeks out Guziki, who is helping out with some of the simpler jobs on the Locust. : “1 week from today. You must head up into upper highlands. I can’t say what you will find there - but it is imperative that you do. This is an order from my masters.” : “Boss this is bullshit, what the hell is going on.” : “Your contract demands that you go where we say, and fight what we say. Do not make me report that I am dissatisfied with your work here, mercenary.” MechHQ has decided that we have another mission on July24th. The day of the mission, the company gather as our original and most experienced lance of MechWarriors prepare to headout into the field. Guziki wishes each of them good luck while Troy runs a small pool on whether this will be the mission that finally ends Jimmums career. Stovepipe has even recovered enough to leave the Infirmary to see them off. Lionheart pilots his Trebuchet, Jimmums is in the Shadowhawk, Figment has been awarded the use of the Enforcer, Nasir is piloting the Commando. **********************

It wouldn't be the first time a Precentor has gone "mad," and if they get caught ComStar can always blame it on a rogue who they will "escort back to Terra to give psychiatric help" and then actually just quietly rename them and shuffle them off to run an HPG station on the other side of the Inner Sphere as a reward. ComStar changes names about as often as they change their robes. Which isn't often, but they will do it when other people start to notice that peculiar odor. (IC Commentary from one of the guys waiting in the wings unless anyone says I'm out of line) A small capellan man comes up to John Guziki. "I understand you are not trusting your Intel sir. I am Han Tso and I will do what I can in your Intellegence Billet until you have enough mechs for me to pilot again. This mission appears to be another recon in force. The operational timing shows that the quote pirates unquote do not have overwhelming strength to attack us. But they are trying to whittle us down and make this planet a focal point for something else. I will see what else I can find from the intercepts. Thank you kind sir."

I'm guessing it's either a Frankenmech or it's an SLDF mech that's not common knowledge. If it's the latter, the possibilities that scare me most are a Royal Guard variant of the Champion (packs a gauss rifle and an ER PPC), an Exterminator (hello cloaking mechs), or a Galahad (two gauss rifles).

Comedy option: it's a Goliath, Scorpion, or Xanthos. They're the only known mechs of their type in the Inner Sphere at this time, and very rare sights that would probably throw most MechWarriors for a serious loop seeing one in the field. The Goliath and Scorpion are long-range fire support mechs, but the Xanthos is packing an AC/20 in its stock model.
