Last night, the treat container, after having been freshly filled up, fell over on to a not-long hoovered floor and after I finished dying inside, thought what the hell here birds you have a few minutes. Steve refused to come down from his shelf and just watched it all For some reason Inko started threatening Ohtori as soon as he was put on the floor, a suicidal move if Ohtori hadn't had better things to eat at the time  EXCITE   Still posturing a bit, but then decided there were more important things   It was all very cute, lots of urp-ing from Ohtori, dinosaur rage from Inko, and neither protested too much when time was up. Cleaned up, salvaged what was possible, all was well. (Until I went to refill Steve's seed container and the bag split at the bottom when picked up out of it's box)  PS: Ohtori recently fed Inko through the cage bars so vigorously that part of Inko's beak broke off (flakey overgrown layers, not the important bits) and flew into the sky, I found it on the floor after. Whats the best way to deal with chicken mites? Will mites off a chicken be able to live off of parrots? I know they cant live on humans for more than a few weeks. I handled chickens and their coop and sat on my computer chair in the same clothes to take my shoes off, now they are in that and my bed. I know they are mobile as hell if they are hungry, whats the best thing to spray/treat the birds with to stop then getting dug in? Mites get loving everywhere, lay tons of eggs, and don't care what kind of bird they're on, gently caress mites. Best bet, if you can find one, is to consult a vet the local farmers use. They know which insecticides to prescribe. Other options include coating you, birds, and everything you own in diatomaceous earth for a few weeks, or spraying birds and likely hot spots in this mixture: 10 ounces of water 1 ounce of garlic juice 1 teaspoon (total) any combination of these essential oils - bay, cinnamon, clove, coriander, lavender, spearmint and/or thyme I can't make any claims as to effectiveness, but available literature says it works. Oil mixtures would probably work, too. On the bright side, they only live about a week. The ones in your car and on your bed probably won't survive more than two generations.

If you have chickens you probably live near a livestock supply place. They sell mite spray/dunking stuff for chickens. If you have comparatively large amounts of chickens (say, dozens) you make it up by the bucket and dunk the chickens in upside down one by one and wash their stuff in it. If you only have a couple of backyard chickens, you make it up in a smaller quantity and spray the little shits and their nesting material etc with a regular little squirty spray bottle. Pet shops should have a parrot one which I imagine is much the same, only more easy to make in smaller quantities and probably less likely to cause spontaneous random chicken death which is a thing that happens to chickens a lot. Definitely get the chicken mite spray for your chickens, and maybe check with your vet to see if they think it won't kill a parrot outright. Otherwise, play it safe(r) with parrot mite spray from the pet shop. Regular bug spray should work on chairs (obviously check to make sure it doesn't gently caress the fabric up). Also, wild birds are covered in mites (they're the main way chickens get mites). Don't worry about spreading mites to wild friends, unless they're from a different continent, as they are guaranteed mitey and lousy as heck.

Spencer continues to go potato when the camera phones come out. He did have a bit of a yell-and-flap this morning until I gave him a spray bath which he loves. He climbs around making sure I spray him under his wings, on his back, his chest, tail. All of course accompanied by flapping and happy squawks. Now he's back to his normal position, resting in his cage.

I just got home from a week long vacation last night to find that there has been an area wide power outage for 48 hours and the governor declared an emergency. I have the wood stove burning but that only raises the temperature of the house from like 53 to maybe 58. I have a cockatiel, a Quaker, a green cheek, and a lovebird. Do I need to be worried about the cold making them sick or killing them? It's not like they can huddle together for warmth like they would in the wild.

So I've got a couple of kakarikis Boba and Marley and a budgie called Cheesecake, they're in a real big cage, which they sleep in, I let them out during the day which is fine because 90% of the time it's supervised by at least 1 person. I've noticed however in the last couple of days that one of my Kakarikis, Boba has taken to just chilling out at the bottom of the cage, no feathers puffed or anything, just relaxing at night before bed I guess and I've read that sick birds do this, am I right to panic, or is this a normal behaviour? Marley and Boba  lil' Cheesecake  EDIT: had a quick look in the cage now and the fucker is just sleeping on the perch like normal, what an rear end in a top hat. Can barred parakeets be housed with regular keets? Met this guy today and he was so sweet. came up to the bars for scritches and basically laid in his food dish chowing down while getting them pets. I asked to be called when they figure out prices.

Rule of thumb is not to cage Old World parrots with New World parrots due to the former producing much more dust. Budgies/parakeets aren't nearly as dusty as cockatiels but I wouldn't risk it.

I've always considered them kind of standard/larger bird size, but my nan had one growing up and I had a cockatiel so I might be biased. As to your question, what isn't to love is when they bite a hole in your inflatable Cadbury dairy cow. Twice. <  >(Yes it's my fault for not learning the first time but in my defence I was about four and the bird was older and therefore wiser than me.)
