I like to think the lipsticks in All Stars are kept from Ru and the other judges b/c I like to think he still cares enough and is invested enough in the show and watching these girls to want to be surprised, too. I went back and have been rewatching Season 6 this weekend, and honestly the top five still feels so hosed up. I love Adore and she's super charming but like, she did not deserve to be in the top three at all, she was bad and "learning" all season long which they kept reading Trinity for but kept finding Adore's "aw shucks I don't know how to shape my body or make a garment" charming? Super dumb. Adore/Darienne should have been 4th/5th (or flipped) with Ben in the top three. I was mad about it then, and I'm mad about it now. Ben was solid and consistent all season, multiple wins... it is nonsense. I like that the last couple of years we've had season --> all stars --> season --> all stars... how long could they keep that up, do you think? If I was making a cast for All Stars 4, not bringing on any previous winners or people who had been on previous All Stars seasons, I think this is the best I could do assuming ten cast members like AS3: Trinity K Bonet Ivy Winters Derrick Barry Darienne Lake Pearl Naomi Smalls Kim Chi ... Peppermint, Trinity, Shea? I mean Willam but he'd never do it? anyway, just brain dumping

I could see the next All Stars mining a lot from season 9, yeah. And hopefully bringing Kim back. I really don't know who else unless they start bringing back a bunch of early-out girls. I've been enjoying how fast AS2 to AS3 was but I hope we get a bit of a break between 3 and 4, unless season 10 ends up having a bunch of queens I want to see more of. Then I could see a heavy 9/10 season with a few girls from earlier. Also how could you forget Ongina ffs, who shall win whichever All Stars she appears on.

Laganja is an absolutely insane performer, I'd love to see her on all stars. I really want Trinity (both of them) to come back, too. I've always thought it'd be cool to have a season of first or second out queens. A whole Rudemption season. Of course, that means we might have to accept Magnolia Crawford back.

I agree w/ Ru tbh in the sense that creating the illusion is a big part of what the type of drag this show involves is creating the illusion, and being judged on the illusion. I'd be iffy about it if he said they won't let trans women compete at all, but I feel pretty confident that girls who are trans and either still transitioning, or trans and not needing or wanting to transition and have just transitioned socially/etc will still be competing if their audition is good enough (or their social media presence, lbr). We've had many over the years and while yeah, most of them weren't really openly out as transgender when they started they've never not been Ru Girls. But I can be on board, personally, with trans women who have gotten the whole shebang done not being allowed to compete. I mean it would be kind of cheating, like if they let bio queens compete. The judging process would have to change quite a bit. e: ^^ also yeah not looking forward to the backlash on something like this, but i always appreciate ru speaking his mind honestly even if it gets him in hot water and he's just a silly old man with weird new age ideas 80% of the time. he's already got a pretty bad reputation w/ a lot of the trans community so i'm sure this won't help, even if it's a resonable thing

I get where he's coming from but I prefer the idea that drag is drag, regardless of who's wearing it. But then I prefer the Dragula style of drag to the Drag Race style of drag, so I understand why he doesn't want someone who can already pass for a woman having that leg up. I mention Dragula because the Boulets have already said they'll accept any and all queens, as long as they know their drag.

Yeah, but again it's just different judging criteria between the shows. I'm all for more shows showcasing diff types of drag, the Boulets are great. But Ru is a glamour queen and Drag Race is primarily a venue for the more 'traditional' type of drag I guess, which is funny considering Ru's roots. Honestly, I think it's only a mater of time before they have a cisgender straight woman on the show. Go to /r/rupaulsdragrace and you'll see everyday straight women posting photos of themselves made up drag style. I think it'll also probably be canceled after they cast a straight woman. But it's only a matter of time.

See, what I got out of RuPaul’s comments was his usual “drag is an illusion.” Trans people aren’t creating an illusion but living their true lives. Now, to me hypothetical trans person can also be a drag performer, but there we have Ru’s somewhat reductive concept of “drag” as an art form (she side-eyed the very idea of bald queens like Jujube a decade ago). People are getting super-upset and as usual Ru is a problematic fav.
