So what was the logic behind ditching Haramaki? Or why ninjas are still cool with YJ?

Haramaki, like Raidens, were probably decimated in the split and formed the Tanko unit as a result.

Ninjas stuck around because one comes in the Red Veil box.

Numerous, effective and tenacious: We must remember to hire them next time....oh, nevermind.
So those other merc factions aren’t stealing their units from the parent faction such that the parent faction can no longer use them right?

If that’s the case, why are YJ losing all the JSA stuff?

A) Because they changed some of the fluff, and if JSA rebels against YJ, it'd be pretty weird that nothing changed whatsoever and all these JSA units are chilling out with the ISS dudes or whatever, and

B) Because Corvus wants your money and sometimes* they do dumb stuff to get it.

Mr. Helsbecter will you please stop shooting I am on the phone

Hey, was out of town for a few days.

grassy gnoll posted:

That was really helpful, thanks. You're exactly right - I'd been taking the Kusanagi link to go bully stuff and a couple of Moderator specialists to go press buttons, some drones and a Sin-eater for flavor, and I never really felt like I was getting my points' worth out of either side of the equation.

Couple of follow-ups -

Am I hallucinating, or is the biggest weakness of the Observance units their weak second move value? Even with a ton of orders and a link team, I never feel like I can get them exactly where I want them on the board.

Do you find yourself with a regular preference for initiative versus deployment? Barring missions where I absolutely want to be the last one scoring, I feel like I've developed a strong preference for one or the other based mostly off what army I'm playing (fast and punchy, go first/Ariadna take deployment, etc), but I don't have a feel for which best benefits Bakunin. I'm starting to suspect they operate on a higher need for context than what I'm used to playing.

I've been taking the fancier hackers for BAK, and it seems like you're running primarily KHDs. Is that more a result of your play style, or something you feel is more of a general good practice for the army as a whole?

That meat-wall list looks pretty fun, too. If I get the chance to try it out, I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe I'll get to play sometime this year. :unsmith:

Yes, the 4-2 is a big deal for Observance. Takes a big investment to get them where they need to be. Usually how it goes, you get in and make it happen, but then you can't get out and someone CC's or DTWs your dumb rear end. They're powerful, but need extra attention to detail. Compare with Riot Grrls, who go wherever.

Initiative VS deployment depends on how many models you are running. Big armies take deployment, small armies initiative. When you have 15-18 models on the board, it's way easier to guard all lines of approach and keep key pieces safe. With a small army, you want to lay out your battle plan before anything bad happens to your key pieces, and use the turn to re-arrange your deployment if needed. Big two-group lists can't re-arrange like that, so a lot of the benefit of going first washes away.

The mission is almost as important as a consideration. Sometimes the mission is all-consuming, but if I have a HGL Lizard, I wanna go first, even if it's Quadrant Control.

Finally, my meta is pretty hacker-unfriendly, so yeah, most of my toys stay at home. I run the custodier HD+ when I need a good lieutenant, but lists that turn on hacking aren't efficient in my group.

Just played a game - my opponent, a warcor, was a bit salty about the JSA change himself since he was using vanilla Yu Jing and takes loads of keisotsu type units to shave points off the equivalent filler models, and often takes Kitsune.

Game was the new Unmasking mission. Honestly I didn’t care for the mission much. It is very heavy on objective chasing, which is totally different from direct action. Against a competent opponent it’d be very hard to score big.

We are both fairly equally matched and both used high order count lists with plenty of cheer leaders. The game was indecisive with most orders going toward fencing for advantage between ARO pieces. On both sides our best offensive options all seemed to get cut off by lucky crits from the player on the defensive!

Playing the same mission in a tournament on Saturday, so hopefully I learned something.

You didn't really have any offensive pieces to let you remove aro pieces and move up the board. I think that the missile launcher profile for the hac tao is probably its worst one, to make minimal changes to the list I personally would probably just drop the servant bot and swap the hac tao to the hmg, which will let him remove aro pieces and then be a pain in the rear end aro piece midfield with to camo and suppression fire up.

The task master and kriza boraks are well up there in terms of cool - infact the beyond icestoem box is a solid pickup.

I'm personally a big fan of the look of Hellcats, and one or two can be handy in a list. Szalamander if you're after something big and beautiful. They corredigor starter box (not army box) has some nice minis too, but they are middle aged sculpts.

Jaguars are great sculpts, but if you're just after asthetics they might not be your cup of tea.

And mobile brigada look ace even if riot grrls are the better HI option.

Check out the STARCO stuff around too, that might be up your alley.

Yeah, watched a video that mentioned it. I can safely say I’ll at least try a list of mobile brigada mixed link. Seems like an overall side grade for Corregidor, you lose intruders while swapping around your access to TAGs and skirmishing specialists. Probably better link options but not necessarily any more flexible for a full list.

That would work too, and a second source of smoke can also help you get up the board. You could even use a coordinated order to have both smoke launchers go at once to cover more area, because as non-targeted weapons you can shoot them at different locations.

As far as i know this was faq'd out. Smoke all have to be thrown at the exact same point for it to work as a coordinated order now. Shame, as it was a standard move for me to coordinate smoke with 4 jaguars at once to open a lot of games!
