100% Dundee posted:Stick with Sony, LG or Samsung cells and most importantly stick with a well known battery retailer like Ilumn if you want to reliably get good, authentic cells. Even they've been tricked a few times with fake cells but you run a much higher risk if you go the Amazon/ebsy/third party reseller route. I've bought fraudulent coin cells directly from Amazon Prime before. They were supposed to be Panasonic 2450's, but my assumption is that they were expired garbage that had been repackaged by unscrupulous third parties in China. The batteries blatantly say "Made in Bangladesh, but the generic packaging says "Made in China"--it's pretty funny to see side by side. The longevity of the batteries was abysmal and the voltage was extremely low on some of the "new in package" batteries. Of course, I left a one star review and Amazon didn't publish it either, probably because I used a bunch of words like fraudulent and scam in the review.

Technically bought a new car like vehicle back in November, but it's finally finished this month with all the parts I ordered. Room for two kids and an adult, 350ish lb weight limit not including me, and great handling. It knocks about 10 minutes off my driving commute and with max assist it'll do 27mph with the effort of ~16. Plus my daughter loves it it'll be doing daycare, market, and commute duty for the foreseeable future.

A really cool cargo bike. How much did it cost you compared to something like an eBike + trailer?

General Emergency posted:A really cool cargo bike. How much did it cost you compared to something like an eBike + trailer? It was about $7k for everything. I coulda knocked probably $2k off with cheaper components and accessories, but the intention was to be a car replacement so I went a little overboard. I also went for the version that had an attached e-kit rather than the built in STePs system, because I can take the whole thing off and it will still work as a bike. Range depends on how much assist I am using. Maxed out and going top speed I can get about 20 miles. If I drop it down to minimal assist I could probably go about 100 miles before it ran out. You could probably get a comparable e-bike for $3-4k plus another $500ish for a trailer. The handling on the Bullitt is fantastic though, it rides just like a normal bike. Plus I like having my kid up front so I can keep on eye on her. I tried a trailer a few times but I never really liked how it felt. My commute is about 10 miles, which I can do in about 30 minutes on the bike. It can be as much as an hour in a car. If I am picking up or dropping off my kid from daycare it adds another 4 miles and ~15 minutes. Coredump posted:So there's a chance I could get a ride in it then. Nobody I know wants to ride in it yet, other than my kid

I don't ride it within 36 hours of rain, but yes I am planning to paint it black and yellow with marine grade paint. Probably within the next few weeks.

It provides a lot of easy answers but doesn't really stand up to serious scrutiny. wikipedia posted:Anthropologist Jason Antrosio describes Guns, Germs, and Steel as a form of "academic porn". Diamond's account makes all the factors of European domination a product of a distant and accidental history and has almost no role for human agency–the ability people have to make decisions and influence outcomes. Europeans become inadvertent, accidental conquerors. Natives succumb passively to their fate. "Jared Diamond has done a huge disservice to the telling of human history. He has tremendously distorted the role of domestication and agriculture in that history. Unfortunately his story-telling abilities are so compelling that he has seduced a generation of college-educated readers."[20]

Lord save me from all these deals. A Minolta X-570 in magnificent condition for with a 50mm f/1.7 lens for less than half the price of the body alone. Also came with a 70-300 lens I'll probably never use. I also have another one of these coming in that I won for $5 an an estate auction. Going to see which is in better nick and flip the other.

beanieson posted:Are you in then US? If so how was the purchase process? They’re doing manufacturer direct sales iirc. Yes, southern california (thats Huntington Beach Pier). I have a friend that works at Canyon that was able to get me some extra swag and free shipping so he did the ordering for me, but the process is just filling out your billing/shipping stuff like any other online purchase. It comes packaged up nicely and is 90% built. You have to put on the seat and handlebars and your pedals (it comes with flat platforms). I took the time to transfer my power2max power meter over from my old bike. I took all the reflectors and dork disc off as well. Beyond that the only extras on it are garmin mount, tool roll, and bottle cages. Comes in at 18lbs even which isn't bad for an XL frame size and disc brakes. My old rim brake bike was 20.5lbs with non-aero wheels. It took me about 2 hours to put it all together. Scheduled delivery was next day but Fedex sucks so I had to pick it up at their hub. Their distribution center is only an hour away though (in Chino, CA).
