Grand Fromage posted:I was told the reason milk in Korea is so sweet is not because they intentionally sweeten it, but since everybody's lactose intolerant they use an enzyme to remove the lactose, and that process converts the lactose into glucose which tastes much sweeter. The funny thing to me is that skateboarding has been ruled by corporate overlords for 20+ years now, but there was an initial backlash by "purists" when Nike entered the shoe line-up originally. Nike's money, street cred, and high production values swayed a lot of big names eventually (I'm guessing the money, mostly), and they are definitely there to stay as long as they keep making money off kids. Adidas slid right in with the same standards and are doing the same. New Balance saw that and wanted to compete, and came in like "Dude, brahs, check out our fresh kicks, totally not wack, Brosef. You know NB is legit OG styleee." So, somehow there's a New Balance skateboard team and some shoes that are still kinda ugly but look better than the visual filth they were producing before. They threw their grandpa money at some popular names from the 2000s, along with some fresh faces, and now NB is attempting to do what Nike and Adidas did. http://www.newbalance.com/men/featured/nb-numeric/ Taintrunner posted:Homeless, and/or drugs. I've read and watched documentaries about Thailand's meth culture. Apparently they call it "ya ba" there and they smoke it in rolled up tin foil, like a makeshift crack pipe. I thought this was interesting since people in most parts of the world freebase with open tin foil rather than rolled up. Anyway, I agree with the posters who suggested that Bajaj's date was coming off a meth binge. The bad hygiene plus total lack of self awareness is something I've personally witnessed in tweakers in America. And it's not always just poor people who do it. In Japan, isn't "shabu" something business men do? Like a middle class thing? Also, I was reading recently that New Balance is a coded way for contemporary Neo Nazis to identify one another, as if I needed another reason not to buy old man shoes.

I have never seen a leader sell out their entire country to a foreign power this transparently without getting run out of the country. I sent this Youtube to Chaoshan Girl after first explaining with Google translate for the terms what light year is, the distance, why we use that as a measurement, what a galaxy is, and so on, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1mkjkTqg0Y She watched it and this is the reply I got: quote:I don't know why I am here . She's having a full blown existential melt down. I asked if China was still number one and she told me to shut up. Are those shoes for real? Really? Come on. For real? What??? Fuerdai really pay daddy's money for that? I am so confused. I don't even care about the blanket coats. This blows New Balance shoes out of the water. Since that "hypebeast" basic-bitch-white-boy reddit shows up on r/all sometimes (I am talking about r/streetwear, but also random posts of r/malefashion), I click on the posts to read the comments and see people talking about what the guys in the pics are wearing, with jackets that start at $1000 USD, shirts for $200, shoes for $600, etc., and in the photos the guys who are always decked out in about $3000 worth of really plain/dumb looking branded clothing are... Mainlanders. Sometimes a Korean, but mostly it's Mainlanders. I mean, I can guess that some of what they are wearing could be knock-offs for photo ops to get internet points, but being around Mainlanders in foreign universities and living in China makes me feel that many times it's all legit and paid for at full price or higher because they used someone abroad to get it for them. Trillian did a little research in the ship’s copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It had some advice to offer on drunkenness. "Go to it," it said, "and good luck." It was cross-referenced to the entry concerning the size of the Universe and the ways of coping with that.

I wonder if how you were raised matters, like if you keep on drinking milk all childhood into adulthood the body just doesn't turn off making the enzymes you need.

It's a traceable genetic phenomenon, the genes for lactose tolerance are only common in Europeans and one or I think two African ethnic groups in different parts of the continent. That doesn't mean it's entirely nonexistent in other populations but it's rare. It also varies in severity. Most people in East Asia are lactose intolerant but in Korea and Japan they really push milk drinking hard. Some people get super sick from it, others just get a little gassy. I do not know if forcing a lactose intolerant person to continue drinking milk after weaning does anything.

Last I heard lactose intolerance comes from not consuming milk during childhood/breast feeding etc. Unless you're something special you aren't born lactose intolerant. My family is expected to be lactose intolerant going by "Common knowledge" but we drink it just fine and I certainly drank it as child full fat etc so did my parents and grand parents. The markers is generally in the genetics but outside influence is a much stronger factor of what genes get activated. Drink your milk people, there is little reason to be lactose intolerant unless you already are. Also let your kids roll around in the dirt and eat some of it as it will make them stronger.

Should be specific we're talking about adult lactose tolerance here. As a baby everyone is, but most humans don't have the genes to retain that tolerance into adulthood. It's a fairly uncommon mutation.
