So along with the typical attacks against AMLO for being a "friend of Chavez" and wanting to turn Mexico into Venezuela (Corbyn gets the same lovely attacks), AMLO claims that the PRI hired this dirty right-wing consultant to help them out:

https://twitter.com/JJRENDON/status/951578753662111745

The PRI claims that they did not hire him, but journalists are wondering why he's in Mexico and why he's hanging around in PRI circles. (He did work for the Peña Nieto campaign in 2012)

If you read spanish, this is a great look into AMLO generally, his life, career, and failed presidential attempts:

https://www.vice.com/es_mx/article/qveen7/vice-news-tres-veces-amlo-una-carrera-de-fondo-por-la-presidencia-de-mexico

Part of the thesis is that AMLO has always been his worst enemy, but that he's learned a lot in the past 12 years. He's not a raging hothead anymore. He dresses better. He's on social media and is going after young voters. And he actually prepares for speeches and debates now, although he's still wary of technical advice and consultants.

Sounds like the last legs of Bernie's campaign, and Corbyn for that matter.

Oh also, apparently in 2006 AMLO visited every single one of Mexico's 2,400 municipalities.

Lopez Obrador has 35 percent support ahead of the July 1 vote according to the survey by polling firm Parametria, published by Reuters on Wednesday ahead of wider publication.

That compared with 34 percent and an 11 percentage point lead in a survey by the same company a month earlier.

Lopez Obrador appeared to benefit from a tussle for second place between his opponents, who have spent the last couple of weeks accusing each other of corruption, with the former Mexico City mayor sitting comfortably above the fray.

“The fight for second place is damaging them both,” Parametria founder Francisco Abundis said. “For citizens, these disputes are very tiring.”

In the number two spot, Ricardo Anaya of left-right coalition “For Mexico in Front,” slipped to 21 percent support, from 23 percent in the previous poll.

Former finance minister and ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) hopeful Jose Antonio Meade slid for the second consecutive month, to 16 percent from 18 percent.

its not quite like that. prd really , really wanted to go with amlo for the presidency but he rebuffed them constantly. my guess is that the prd asked to keep control of mexico city (basically prds one claim to relevancy) and amlo told them to go gently caress themselves, so they sold out to pan in exchange for their help in beating morena in mexico city

i can kinda understand why amlo did it, there is not a single leftist voter in this country whos going to vote for loving ricardo anaya over amlo. theres nothing for him in giving the prd a lifeline and it would mean betraying his own people which he hates

now allying with the ultraconservative pes, that i have no loving idea what the goal or strategy there is. they are a very minor party and offer nothing
