:patriot:
Since this thread is informal dentist chat, has anyone else had like 2 dentists try to rip them off over time? My first dentist from my childhood was great, up until I hit about 16. I went from never having any cavities, to the next visit the dentist telling me I had somehow developed some outrageous number of cavities (either 6 or 8 cavities out of nowhere in a 6 month period). I then went to get a second opinion from a different dentist. He told me I only had one cavity, which was filled and fixed without incident.
After about two or three years going to that dentist, I had two more fillings over time. He then hit me with a similar story ("oh you got like 4 or 5 cavities we need to fix lol"). I then went to yet another dentist, who informed me that dentist was incorrect, and that he had hosed up filling one of my teeth. The third dentist even went on to say that the hosed up tooth probably didn't need to be filled. I had to have the hosed up filling redone, and got another filling while I was seeing that third dentist. Unfortunately he retired about 3 years ago, and I haven't been to the dentist since.

Can anyone provide any insight in to that situation? I can understand a difference of opinion, but how can one say there's 8 cavities and the other guy say there's 1? Honestly, the first two dentists have made me not trust a loving word a dentist tells me. It reminded me of a shady garage that you get your oil changed at twice, and on the third time they try to tell you you need a new engine/trans because you have a seeping gasket that needs to be watched.

After not having dental insurance for 4 or 5 years, I had a dentist tell me I needed 9 cavities, which I found wholely absurd. I waited out my 6 months to get another consultation from another dentist, and I had 3. Even though I didn't namedrop the first dentist, my second dentist said that some dentists are really wobbly or over eager in what they might consider a cavity, but 9 to 3 seems like a big drat stretch.

There's a local dentist chain around here that caters to people without insurance by offering payment plans an whatnot. They are also famous for ripping people off, doing tons of unnecessary work. My brother was going to them until it started getting ridiculous to the point that they were obviously trying to drain every penny out of him that they could, it's a racket and a problem, so make sure you find a reputable dentist folks.

There's someone in the UK that was pretty positive a lot of IBD actually sources from the same kind of GI bug that cattle get, and managed to build a test for it that works. I've been having my specialist keep an eye on that because if you've got that there's going to be a therapy developed that's a cure.

Probs better than my insurance paying $18,000 every 8 weeks for my current therapy.

Those fuckers. I went once, because it's the only place within an hour that my wife's insurance covers. They claimed I needed scaling and root planing, and had several cavities, then threatened to not do a basic cleaning if I didn't buy their special (overpriced) toothbrush and mouthwash. I paid up front because they demanded that I do so, then spent 18 months arguing with them about who owed who what. Every time, they'd agree that they actually owed me like $11. Another 3 months later, another bill for $250+. Another call, another agreement that they owed me. Repeat... I finally had my lawyer send a cease and desist, with my phone records of when/who I called and talked to them about it. gently caress Aspen!
