Dixie Cretin Seaman posted:so, today one of my older and less tech-savvy in-laws browsed a website on his iphone that looked like apple.com and said he was being hacked and prompted him to call "apple tech support" (apparently safari allows any website to ask the user to dial a pre-filled phone number, on page load, with an ios-native pop-up prompt. thanks tim!) $4000 jeez, for that level of payout I’d expect a fake fbi warning about child porn popup, not just a basic call tech support scam.

what if uber but for food? i'm sure running unlicensed restaurants, but with an app, is a totally original idea no one has thought of before and definitely won't end with everyone involved getting their poo poo pushed in by the health inspector

yes. there's been at least one other one in toronto that died the minute it got a writeup in the paper. also airbnb played with the idea but never launched iirc unsurprisingly, techlords are far too clever to do any kind of research to see if something has been done before, and why it failed in the past

ontario just revoked their $14,000 EV tax rebate if the vehicle you buy costs more than $75,000, logically pointing out that if you can afford a car costing as much as the average canadian family makes in a year, you don't really need extra handouts. all teslas in canada cost more than $75,000. people on the tesla reddit are losing their loving minds

sometimes as a joke i like to start sentences with "i'm not racist, but" e.g. "i'm not racist, but i think those new priuses have really ugly taillights" people go "huh? that's not racist" and i say "right, that's what i said"
