The Mercury uncovered some texts between Ted Wheeler and Portland businesses, wherein he pledged to crack down on downtown protesters during the November holiday shopping season, by increasing police patrols and enforcing "no-sit zones", which is the compromise the city came up with after the old sit-lie ordinance was declared unconstitutional.

Washington State Legislature just put out their budget that gives "homeowners" a temporary property tax reduction in 2019. Which is to say it takes money from tenants and gives it to their landlords. But hey, they did this with less than 24 hours until the end of the legislative session, so there's no time to discuss it. So loving done voting for Democrats at the state level.

My neighbors seem to be mostly "socially liberal, fiscal conservative" types. Remember the city council in Black Diamond who were literally fighting over the gavel? One of the instigators Pat Pepper was voted out of office in a successful recall, only the third ever in WA history: http://q13fox.com/2018/02/13/years-of-infighting-leads-to-rare-recall-on-the-ballot-for-a-black-diamond-council-member/ The other 2 were voted out in the fall. I'd like to think it's a microcosm of how the Trump admin will be dealt with. RuanGacho fucked around with this message at 16:48 on Mar 9, 2018 |

If the street that they choose to locate it on is currently not full of addicts and homeless people it will be once a safe injection site opens. If you locate it where there is already a problem and then use it as a point of contact to help people then it can actually make things better. How much do you trust your local government to not gently caress it up?

The landmarks I recognized are Mt. Hood, Wooden Shoe, Haystack Rock/Cannon Beach, Crater Lake, and Portland. I don't know if that's a specific winery, and I don't know if there's a BMX trail with wooden ramps in a forest, or if those are just generic stand-ins for those things. Also our high desert gets like a one second shot at the end which is some bullshit.

I don't really feel like there's a "best" beach, but Cannon Beach is close to Portland. I grew up in Eugene and got to see more of the coast between like Florence and Yachats. It depends on what you're looking for; whether you want to go antiquing, or visit landmarks, or stay at a bed-and-breakfast, or go camping in the forest, if you need to deal with kids or not. I'd also like to point out that the temporary visitor's center at the Tillamook Cheese Factory will be opening at the end of the month, if that counts for anything.

My family goes down to Cannon Beach a lot. One thing you can also do is take time to go to Seaside and enjoy the tourist trap. Also, near the Tillamook cheese factory is the airplane museum, which when I was in high school was super cool cause they had a bunch of WW2 planes, but last time I went they donated them to a different museum and the place was barren.

best thing to do around there is Dunes recreation area. Take the guided tour, the rover's way higher power than anything they let you drive. There's a mind blowing campground there that has a lake with forest on one side and sand dunes on the other.

anthonypants posted:http://www.wweek.com/news/city/2018/03/13/portland-socialists-did-not-endorse-any-candidates-in-local-races/ This article is a mess, what happened An endorsement from the Portland DSA means a commitment of manpower and resources, not just a rubber stamp. Because of this policy some members of the PDX DSA steering committee encouraged members against endorsing any of the candidates because it would limit the resources we have for other campaigns. This was taken by Julia DeGraw and others as them having already lost the endorsement, when in reality it was just the opinions of individual members of the steering committee and they still could have won endorsements. Instead all of the candidates withdrew from the process, so the DSA members had no opportunity to vote on endorsement.

As several members of leadership were against endorsement (importantly, they were not against voting for the candidates in the election, but they generally seemed to feel they didn’t rise to the level of DSA endorsement), the candidates all seemed to interpret this as that they wouldn’t be endorsed at all, resulting in their withdrawing requests for nomination, some more fervently than others, and walking out. Chaos ensued. punk rebel ecks posted:Now fast forward to forty minutes later after much back and forth, a member attending the meeting has a question. He's white, blonde, hair, no older than 20, and looks as autistic as you can possibly imagine. He begins by telling us that he is new and this is his first meeting. The question he asks is "I believe I heard that *insert Mexican-American candidate who spoke earlier's name* said that she was once a business owner. Why do we allow people to come in here and speak if they are part of the bourgeois class? We are a socialist party and should stick to our socialist values and shouldn't show such candidates support." Needless to say, while he was speaking EVERYONE was looking down on the floor. The two guys I mentioned previously got up and said "I want to punch you in the face!" and "I'm quitting my membership. You guys are nutcases!" and walked off. The kid who spoke sat back down and didn't seem self-aware of how much of a dumbass he made himself look. IM DAY DAY IRL posted:Alright, so Thad is pretty spot on with a lot of his reporting, I'm going to use his post as a template and throw in some clarification/expand on a few items. Before I get into it I should probably state that we just overhauled a good portion of our bylaws, including our endorsement policies and criteria. We made a big push (which passed with a unanimous vote) to make it very clear that an endorsement from our chapter is not simply a rubber stamp but a commitment of resources, primarily people, to help endorsed candidates campaign for office. The goal is to have the PDX DSA endorsement carry legitimate weight in a race and not just another paper medal to pin on the chest of a candidate.
