A shitty post? This calls for a dance of deduction.

That sound like a total loving disaster and if that is how your meetings are run then no wonder candidates decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

It was a loving circus.

Also I feel that both Day Day and Thad are underselling how critical the pamphlet was against the candidates. I read it over last night and yeah I could see how they would get the impression of being disrespected.

I feel that it's important that DSA has exploded over the past two years. Hell in the beginning of the meeting someone stated that not long ago PDX DSA consisted of 7 members sitting in a local library, but now has over 700 and now meet in a literal church.

The organization is hitting the big leagues and the leadership, and members, are playing catch-up. I feel that explains the inexperience, especially considering how so much of the leadership is under 30.

I agree that the pamphlet was fairly against the candidates, and full disclosure, the executive committee’s positions largely mirrored my own after I read the candidate questionnaires. That said, I didn’t think it so big a deal as to withdraw the endorsement requests, or even worse, cut bait and leave. It’s admittedly ignoring the very significant issues with communication that occurred, and I’m hardly a political expert, but even without the endorsements the meeting seemed like a good time for the candidates to, you know, campaign.

Y'all are acting like the steering committee has no right to express their opinion on a decision that will directly impact how our time and resources are spent. The criticism was pointed but reasonable. If the candidates are going to blow their lid over something as small as this, how were they ever going to handle the pressures that will inevitably come from promoting socialist policies? Sure, there was miscommunication and to some degree the responsibility for that is with the DSA, but to lay all the blame on the DSA leadership is ridiculous.

They were shared via a google drive link, I don’t know if we’re allowed to re-link/share it or whatever. You’re a member though, right? Shockingly it seems to take forever to get new people added.

What can I say, I appreciate that a (relatively) leftist group lives up to the stereotype with a seeming inability to make it through a single meeting without massive infighting, bickering over rules, and some small touch of splintering into factions.

I'm "underselling" it because the majority of statements had very little, if anything at all, to criticize the candidates over. Many of those who were against endorsement advocated that individual members donate, turn out to canvas, build support, and vote for candidates they believe in. Cherrypicking a few instances of concerns with a candidates platform, background, etc. and trying to paint the entire pamphlet as a smear job is at best a misunderstanding and at worst a deliberate attempt to agitate the orgs members against themselves.

I'm not familiar with how other endorsement pamphlets are made. Do they contain a similar tone?

Do right-wing orgs (I'm not sure what the right-wing equivalent of the DSA would be...either Libertarians or Constitution party?) have the same kinds of issues?

No, because inclusion and diversity aren't issues they care about. Liberals will always lose because of this.

I feel like liberals fall into two camps and I think both are pretty garbage.

First camp wants anyone and everyone to be involved and make choices and everyones opinions should be valued even if they're racist poo poo values.

Second camp "knows" what's best for everyone and they want to enact policies that ensure people get what they "need", because poors and minorities are in this situation because they're bad at making good choices.

The older I get the more the more apparent it becomes to me that nobody knows poo poo and nobody should be in charge, anarchist communism is really the only reasonable form of governance... but even then shitheads/people who want to be in charge will argue over what people "need" all day instead of just getting poo poo done.

I am remembering from my childhood, so probably 15 years ago...? Outside of the food court or for work, I haven't been in a mall in well over a decade.

At some point in their lives, everyone thinks 'Wouldn't life be so much better if everyone just got along, shared everything, and there were no rules? The vast majority of people then remember that human nature is a thing, and that anarchy is literally 'No Rules', and it would be far far worse than the 'democracy' we have that barely works. At least we pretend to have basic protections.
