Halal grocery stores have next-level snacks. I'm currently considering marrying the bag of coconut meringue cookies I bought last time I went. Also good for healthy things, I suppose, but all the junk food I've bought from there has been amazing.

Halal meat is the best even for normal dishes, and still relatively well priced. It's just a higher quality of food. I'm over by Southfield and we have a few halal grocery stores, it's to die for.

Being a Pope is kind of like being a Supreme Court Justice. You have a lot of latitude to make personal decisions on this stuff, but you have to find a way to do it that makes it sound like everyone before you was also right, somehow. You can't just retcon 1700 years of Catholic doctrine overnight.  (Yes, I know this isn't a perfect analogy). Also, as someone dealing with Fishmech in another thread, I appreciated the reference.

Halal shops are also the absolute best for spices, you can get huge bags of hard-to-find stuff for a fraction of what you'd pay for a tiny jar at the regular grocery store. And for people with gluten issues, things like chickpea, coconut and rice flour are much cheaper there as well. Also haloumi is amazing.
