If what you are saying is completely true, here's what I think: You got shown scripted and predefined behavior.

This is a big problem with early access games, and any kind of kickstarter game with alpha releases. People get tired of the game before it's done. It happens even with decently produced games. Usually not at 10%, but the game is still dead before final release.

I’m sure it was visually sumptuous — the slice had some strikingly beautiful cinema that paid the PC Master Race tax off. It frequently overdelivered on Look and underdelivered on Play, in that respect much like Alpha 3.0. It’s easy to believe the fluidity of character control would be tops — along with animations and music. Harder for me to believe that when it comes to the player engagement side — the “is this thing a lot of fun to play?” test — that it’s been a high priority concern. A spirit of passivity infused the slice. Walk here. Watch this. Walk there. Fly here. Open this vent. Crawl here. Watch this.

So much will come down to the intelligence of their bespoke AI and to date, we’ve heard great things yet seen very little that’s convincing. So far at least. The run-and-gun segment of the Vertical Slice felt like dummies on parade. The space travel to reach that mission was devoid of engagement altogether for minutes on end. Beautiful to watch but hugely lacking in gameplay. The motion capture scenes looked frequently good, environments overdelivering and characters a mixed bag, but dialogue and story felt (to me at least) a little too deadly serious for its own good. In that respect cut of the same cloth as the Bishop speech, just made far more fidelitous.

Chris has always put a high premium on Fidelity and despite occasional lip service seems to have a low priority for the design of Fun. That more than anything else seems like the factor that will determine whether Squadron ends up a narrow niche title that has already captured the majority of its potential buyer base or a breakout that can pull in the fighter jockeys and particularly the FPS nerds that could help it clear the ROI hurdle. But if you were impressed and feel bullish about things then that’s good to hear. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer before we can see what all the years have added up to.

You need a new perspective. To Chris the fun is the movie. The story. The animated situations and cutscenes.

Gameplay is the filler mini games between his masterpiece segments of story the likes of which will make him a theatrical wizard again in Hollywood.

Bioware has burned the whole cinematic storyline into the ground. I have been skipping all cutscenes anywhere for years now.

What Star Citizen can learn from the Second Life players who break into houses and have sex

Ho Lee Cow! Please read. :laffo:

quote:

"I asked Tony Zurovec, persistent universe game director for Star Citizen, about what level of protection players would receive. “UEE space will be routinely patrolled by security forces,” he says, “and just as they would respond to violence they'll react to the illegal extraction of resources from another player's property. However, security forces are limited, so unless a player is able to communicate such an infringement upon their rights to the authorities the odds of the transgressor being caught are remote."
