Ilja took a storyline departure after his heartbreaker December loss to Champion Bad Bones. Bad Bones was the seemingly undefeatable baddies of baddies that another character Walter had a less of an answer to Bad Bones that IIja did. Walter deployed IIja to finally knock Bad Bones off as Champion. In an anyone but Bad Bones move. WXW's Youtube series Shotgun and their On Demand series strongly supplemented the story. Fans really thought IIja was gone forever. *That* reaction to his return was well earnt.

From what I can gather, the deal was that Walter could pick the stip for the match, and he chose a triple-threat to add Ilja to the match. I don't know anything about WXW, but that clip kinda makes me want to look into them.

Yeah I had to run back a long way to find what kicked it all off, but it seems some guy posted that Roddy vs Cedric was one of the best TV matches he'd seen in some time, and Dave replied that he can see matches just as good most weeks if he watches non-WWE stuff. Then people took that to mean he was saying Roddy vs Cedric wasn't actually any good. I do think he worded his response poorly, but people are reading way too much into it. Apparently people are mad that NJPW on AXS won Best TV Show because they technically don't air TV matches, which is stupidly pedantic but whatever. Dave being Dave, he couldn't let this go and things escalated from there.

no actually it started because someone told dave some 205 live match was the best tv match they'd seen in a while and he responded w/ something snippy about how there's better wrestling out there every single week if you care to find it and then a semantic debate about the difference between a "tv match" (a match structured and worked around the pacing of a tv show with commercial breaks and poo poo) and like what njpw on axs is (edited highlight shows of full wrestling cards) and dave not understand this and accusing people of thinking the former isnt a wrestling tv show while doing his awful twitter gimmick and technically correct but also insufferable people doing his awful twitter gimmick back at him in a vicious cycle

It's a stupid definition that only makes sense if you think all wrestling TV should be like Raw, though? There's nothing stopping any other promotion taping matches and airing them in full, with commercials only between matches, or without cutting anything during the break.

I just scrolled back through his twitter and only saw him telling Bix he was being insufferable, and then further down the initial post by the guy about Cedric/Roddy. So I guess the convo was happening through multiple responses to different people? I'm not very good at figuring out how twitter works sorry!
