I'm actually kinda surprised with the "talent" VicLabor pushes into those stronghold seats. It's almost like they don't get why they're stronghold seats to begin with. You look at who the Libs have in Goldstein, Higgins and Kooyong and they're current ministers who look like they're going places or are future Liberal superstar Tim Wilson.

Oh right. It was so tight for a while there I kinda gave it away in my head. The Jewish community doesn't need to change or Danby necessarily. There's a lot of apartment growth so there could probably be another fresh 2.5k people voting any which way by the next Federal election.

They're largely down in the south, in Caulfield and surroundings; Ports is mostly the likes of St. Kilda and South Melbourne, which is a totally different composition. Jewish people comprise about 10% of Ports as an electorate, and kind of stand apart from the rest of the electorate politically. The real difficulty with the Jewish population is not that they're big, it's that they're loud. They're a lot more ingrained and established than any other minority in the area, and have their own community interactions to the level not often seen, so they can really circulate their opinion. Additionally, because that's basically the only part of the electorate Danby cares about and appeals to, it is REALLY hard to be an alternative stance that's less pro-Israel; I'd say they're kind of entitled and self-important because of that, but I'm aware that sounds a little poor. It's folly to consider Melbourne Ports a 'Jewish electorate', because they're not a big subset of the community, it's just that because that subset is very visible and because Danby's made a business of catering exclusively to them it's hard to declare the electorate to be much else. The 'in' for the Greens in Ports is specifically to not really engage with them, but they have to do that carefully too.

Israel does a lot of bad stuff, but also does many things better than it's neighbours.
