It’s partially true! It’s the endless Genesis add ons and the horrendous mismanagement of both the Saturn and Dreamcast that killed them. The Genesis/MD by itself did fine.

Oh, I never said the Genesis failed, just that it was a flash in the pan. Every other console they put out was disappointing, at best.

Especially since by the time it came out, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo was out in the arcades, and was probably overall the best balanced version of SF2. Capcom should have just released that one, considering SSF2 didn't sell all that well.

Nope, EA didn't bring Madden to the Dreamcast.

Sega's NFL2k series had that option and it was pretty neat, but it just had a list of the plays, so you had to know which name meant what.

What, you mean you didn't have a 3DO to play it on?

Sega seems like it could have only existed in the 90s, as it was the console of 'tude and that could only be really marketable in the 90s. I've asserted many times Sonic is just the 90s embodied, and why most of his fans are the same people that had their sexual awakenings by the lady bunny in Space Jam.

Anyways, I was watching Retail Archology and he was talking about Hot Topic and played this ad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nckB1GRol-E

Now that is 90s as gently caress. That sound track, the clothes (did anyone outside of music videos and skinemax wear those corset/short/stockings thing?), and just everything is 90s "alternative" as all hell.

The podcast 30-20-10 reminded me how god drat long Titanic was at the top of the box office, but surprisingly My Heart Will Go On was only at the top of the charts for a brief time.

one 90s thing that I can't find on the internet so far is a song they used to play on the morning zoo radio show which was a parody of Snow's "Informer" to which the chorus was "I'm a farmer, get up at five in the morning and use my hands to milk the moo-moo cows"

Jim Carrey was hilarious back then, the parody lyric writing is tight, just generally good 90s comedy.

I've had this poo poo stuck in my head for like 24 years now; Comedy Central in the mid-1990s did several current-events comedic music videos that they played amidst commercial breaks.

The Buttafuco song. If you weren't alive/cognizant then, Buttafuco was a 36yr old NJ auto-body shop owner who was banging a 16yr old girl, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_Fisher), and she went to his house and shot his wife in the face to get rid of her, but the wife survived and Fisher served seven years for aggravated assault. She was ticked that Buttafuco both dimed her out to the cops, and lied about their relationship in court, so she brought him up on statutory rape charges and he did six months. I was only 13 or so when the trial was going on, but that poo poo was everywhere.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PToMdCYeE8U

That's the only one I could find individually. I remember one about the Presley-Jackson wedding ("pick a gender, Lisa Marie"), and one about Mohammed Salameh, one of the guys who bombed the World Trade Center in 1993 ("na-na-na-na, I didn't make that bomb!")

Apropos of the video:

Knock-knock

Who's there?

Amy Fisher

Amy Fis-- *BANG*

EDIT: learned some things from the Wikipedia article:

-- The way they met when she was 16 is that she damaged the car she got for her birthday, and she took it to his shop and asked him to secretly fix it so her parents wouldn't find out. Which would have made an awesome "how we met" story if he'd just divorced his wife and married Fisher when she turned 18. Other than the general sketchiness involved.

-- Apparently from 2007-2011 or so, Fisher was a porn actress. Which I guess is one way to capitalize on 90's nostalgia. I'll be very disappointed if the cover blurb didn't say "Only 90's kids will whack it to this!"

Also that there were THREE TV movies made about this story

edit: This should be the next American Crime Story

The mention of Blind Melon, Axl and Nirvana in that second article makes me continue to think for all the talk of a Cobain biopic, I still think doing a period piece movie with Shannon Hoon would be a better idea.

Not so much that he's all that much more interesting, but he has a different story that could be used to explore the rise, fall, rise and fall of different different pop culture eras.

Small town, american high school athlete kid gives you a chance to give a pre-GnR, pre-Hair Metal music perspective of the day. Goes to LA, works with one of the biggest metal groups of the day as they have been reaching their peak popularity. Then as that scene is starting to lose popularity, he himself is in a band that has a few big hits in the then-growing new 90s alternative rock genres. Finally, a just as that scene is losing popularity and other genres like rap and post-grunge and even vocal groups start becoming popular he ends up dying.
