MrBling posted:The first Glory show I watched was 33 and I felt like it set my expectations way too high because I've only ever been disappointed at subsequent shows. Their problem at the moment is that fight pass pays more than their rinky dink tv deals on espn 7 and a sports channel in Afghanistan or whatever, so their undercards range from perfectly serviceable to good and the main cards are often dogshit padded out with a pointless tournament. If they could ease off the tournaments and streamline their distribution so they're running just one card per show then they could go back to being good. The main card up until the headliner yesterday was aggressively bad. Like, this was the card the first Hari/Gerges was on 8 years ago, in a regional promotion that basically only had iPPV distribution. It's incomparable to last night: quote:Tomas Hron vs. Rustemi Kreshnik The tournament at Glory 52 should be much better than last night, but the best card this month and probably this year is K-1's show with ease.

Well he's still scheduled to fight Kyshenko at loving middleweight for no good reason in July. Kyshenko beat his rear end badly when he had to kill himself to make 70kg, and now that he's absolutely horsed out of his mind I don't think it's going to go very well for a guy who hasn't fought in 4 years.

Hello, The enormous K-1 card is very unusual, so I'm actually planning ahead instead of just waking up on the morning and assuming I can catch it. And I'm glad I did because it turns out the card is so loving long (scheduled for 9 hours) that it starts at the following times: However I think the actual fights start 30 minutes after the start. Main card starts 2 hours after the show opens. Card details stolen from Karaev Fan: quote:Preliminary Fights Viewing options: If you have a reliable VPN, the main broadcast is on Abema. Their geoblocking gets better every show, and I haven't gotten Hola to work for a long time https://abema.tv/now-on-air/fighting-sports There are usually Chinese streams that aren't geoblocked, which will either be on https://www.yy.com or http://live.qq.com/directory/game/Fight however they usually have a maximum number of free connections, so you might find it stops working at peak time, and certainly when Wei Rui fights. Finally, apparently you can sign up for a 24 hour free trial on fujitv.live, and it should air on Gaora Speaking of Gaora, Krush 86 just concluded and the main event was complete fuckin insanity https://twitter.com/New_K1_bot/status/972438203083890688

I thought Tenshin was already the RISE champ, but maybe I'm thinking of Blade. He ran through all the low tier tournaments anyway. Anyway, Nana Nasukawa is a pretty good name but it's no Jadamba Narantungalag. Anyway, they're setting up Tenshin vs Horiguchi for NYE. Huge balls on Horiguchi, but he really has nothing to lose except possibly consciousness and the fight seems silly for everyone involved. Tenshin's dad seems like a jackass though and is posting on facebook about how Takeru doesn't deserve to fight him and would definitely lose and Horiguchi is a better kickboxer. This kid has a death grip on combat sports in Japan. Karaev Fan has been translating material leading up to the K-1 show, it's all really good. Here is a pretty big interview with Takeru, and he's also subtitled a couple of videos of Koji, who faces Hirotaka Urabe in the first round. He's pretty funny. He got under Urabe's skin to an insane degree https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs_s6b6t-jg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAcXX7ChsHI if you don't have time to see 10 minutes of a guy getting needled at a press conference, skip to 7:40 for the best part

Last minute drama: Timur Nadrov is out of the tournament and has been replaced with Denis Wosik. Wosik is fairly good but he's not dangerous the way Nadrov is. He fought a couple of weeks ago for Wu Lin Feng at 63kg so he should be in decent shape for the first fight, but an 8 man tournament is a different animal. Takeru's most likely path to the championship before was Stauros, Nadrov, Suarek which I don't think he would've done. I think this actually balances out the brackets a bit more.

For people who haven't seen the K'Festa card yet, here's what you can skip and what you should watch, with timestamped links because I'm nice. QF-1 KOJI vs. Urabe Hirotaka - Skippable if you don't care about the tournament QF-2 Komiyama Kosuke vs. Suarek Rukkukamui - Absolutely loving watch QF-3 TAKERU vs. Stauros Exakoustidis - Watch QF-4 Goshyu Masanobu vs. Dennis Wosik - Skippable if you don't care about the tournament WW Title Fight: Kubo Yuta (c) vs. Melsik Baghdasaryan - Not just skippable, this is a must skip HW Title Fight: Antonio Plazibat (c) vs. Roel Mannaart - Skippable KANA vs. Polina Petukhova - Skippable, but has some fun in it Super BW SuperFight: Gunji Taito vs. Tosaka Takumi - A less strong recommendation to watch Super LW SuperFight: Nakazawa Jun vs Soda Yasuomi - Skippable – SF-1 Winner of QF-1 vs Winner of QF-2 - Watch – SF-2 Winner of QF-3 vs Winner of QF-4 - Watch Super FW Title Fight: Noiri Masaaki (c) vs. Tetsuya Yamato - Absolutely loving watch Super WW Title Fight: Chingiz Allazov (c) vs. Hinata - Watch WW SuperFight: Kimura ‘Phillip’ Minoru vs. Hirayama Jin - Skippable but it only lasts like a minute so whatever WW SuperFight: Kido Yasuhiro vs. Issam Chahid - Skippable EMURGO presents: Kaew Weerasakreck vs. Hiramoto Ren - Absolutely loving watch LW Title Fight: Wei Rui (c) vs. Urabe Koya - Absolutely loving watch Super BW Title Fight: Takei Yoshiki (c) vs. Kubo Kenji - Absolutely loving watch, but even more absolutely than the others – Super FW Title Fight: Winner of SF-1 vs Winner of SF-2 - Watch Official videos will be posted on the K-1 youtube channel at 11pm EST tonight. On Sunday they're holding a press conference to discuss plans for upcoming events. There's already been a couple of interesting things happen but to avoid spoilers for people who missed the card I probably won't post news until the weekend.

thanks very much for taking the time to do all that man. i thoroughly enjoyed it. ***SPOILER TALK BELOW IF YOU ARE YET TO WATCH*** so is that allazov dude just a massive weapon or was hinata a bum? allazov loving steam rolled him takeru looked great. i was really impressed with kosuke's footwork and especially kicks. he's got no hands at all but man his kicks are crazy. if he wasn't comically gassed he could have given takeru some interesting looks. poo poo that spinning hook kick he landed while completely gassed could have been it if it was just a little cleaner. koya's straight left to snatch the belt was my favourite moment of the night. what a peach.

Allazov is probably at worst a top 5 guy, but it's hard to really gauge where he is because 70kg is so fragmented and he's still young (same age as Noiri). His only losses are to Marat Grigorian and Sittichai years back, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Offensively he's incredible, but he has defensive lapses every now and then. He got dropped by Cedric Manhoef and Yasuhiro Kido in fights that he otherwise won without issue, which is a bit shocking for a guy as skilled as him. He's spent quite a lot of time fighting against French guys in France, which has probably the best Thai boxers outside of Thailand, but I think he was mostly fighting the K-1 rules guys and it's hard to know where they stack up as well. Hinata's no bum but he's definitely in the twilight of his career. As a general rule, he doesn't beat elite guys but he makes it to the bell. The last time I saw him get smashed like that was against Andy Ristie, which I guess is the best comparison I could give for where Chingiz is at right now. Incredibly dangerous guy with a couple of losses who could turn out to be brilliant. And in case anybody is wondering what Andy Ristie's up to these days, I heard he's a garbage collector. Komiyama's hands are utterly non-existant and it doesn't help that I'm pretty sure he still trains at his dad's dojo like he has since he was 6. In kickboxing terms he's an old guy at 31, honestly I wasn't and am still not sure he's on this level. I don't think even if he committed to a big change in his training that he could pick up boxing at this point. But God drat his dexterity with his legs is unreal to the extent that photographers make him dress up and kick the air for fun. He fights pretty infrequently so I don't think he was ever going to have the conditioning for 3 fights on short notice. I guess I'd still like to see him fight Goshyu like originally planned, but a guy who keeps stumbling forward vs a guy content to back away and counter could be a horrific style matchup. I don't know what you even do with the guy but a loving lead leg head kick ko while moving backwards is crazy. I hope Wei Rui sticks around and doesn't just retreat to China. It's nuts that Koya is a year younger than his brother, and his brother needs to retire while he just won a belt like that. Also, Ren Hiramoto is the ultimate combat sports failson. His pre-fight video was just him and his friends dressing up as Yakuza characters and tooling around in a warehouse, and he dyed his hair to match Goku's https://twitter.com/Karaev_Fan/status/976868619836633092

News: Allazov is fighting Petrosyan in Italy possibly in July, presumably Bellator kickboxing. Says he's fighting in Paris and China before that, so he's going to be busy this year. https://twitter.com/KrisDekkerMMA/status/977148886656700416 Ghita is unretiring after failing as an insane nationalist politician. Glory are finally going to be moving away from constantly doing tournaments, seems they're shaking things up under a new CEO. Both K-1 and Abema were publicising Takeru's post fight speech (subtitled here), which seems like nothing but Abema used to censor Tenshin's name in their chat and K-1 don't talk about him either. This is the mildest thaw in relations, but hope springs eternal. K'Festa 2 is already confirmed, K-1 are announcing some of their schedule plans on Sunday but that's a year away so I'd be surprised if they even announce a venue for that.

willie_dee posted:Are there any good events or places to find events to watch Thai boxing in the UK live? There's a very healthy scene in the north, there's usually a few shows a year on at whatever the Reebok stadium is called now in Bolton. Yokkao run events pretty frequently, Tetsuya Yamato (the guy who just lost to Noiri) was over here a couple of years ago and got absolutely loving robbed against Liam Harrison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l84SbiATpFo They have a bit of a range of shows, so they're not always big world class affairs, but their shows in conjunction with Super Showdown are usually good stuff. The next one of those isn't until late in the year. The next Yokkao card is in Southampton next month but it's one of the more grass roots shows. They've got Manachai signed to their gym, and he's headlining. He's in the Lumpinee rankings so I assume he's good but I don't think I've actually watched him fight since they announced his signing a few years ago.
