https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/mar/21/with-jennie-formbys-coronation-corbyn-has-total-control-of-labour how significant is it that momentum didn't support Formbys? namesake posted:Hate speech against protected classes is banned, organisations which are classified as glorifying terrorism or propagating hate speech (so jihadi groups and fash) can be banned, our libel and slander laws are really strong and generally benefit the victim of the libel/slander, the rich and powerful can take out injunctions to stop the press reporting the specifics of something and super injunctions which stop the press talking about the thing at all including the fact that it has an injunction on it. Good to know, thank you.

Momentum didn't support Formby because the leader of momentim decided to make a power grab and run for it himself

Dreylad posted:I think I found my answer, what the hell is this poo poo: These articles explain it well: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/staggers/2018/02/what-row-over-who-labour-s-next-general-secretary-really-about https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2018/03/left-vs-left-battle-control-labour-pitches-unite-against-momentum Basically Momentum and some of the other unions didn't want Formby because she is from Unite and they already have several people in top positions. There is also genuine ideological differences between what the unions tend to vote for and what the membership (who Momentum are claiming to represent here) want. I.E - Unions like Trident because it keeps some of their members employed while generally the Labour Left membership is pro-disarmament. It's not a massive gulf though, the unions and Momentum both support the left of the party, so I don't think it matters much unless you're directly involved in internal labour squabbles. British inshore fishermen need to band together in an organization or association such as the UK Inshore Fishermen's Association and do something about the problems facing them especially recreational divers IMO.

The post itself is also a complete non issue. If Corbyn were an anti-semite you'd think they could find something anti-semitic he's said or done.

I don't think Corbyn personally holds anti-semitic views, but defending this poo poo: is absolutely enabling anti-semitism. and enabling the worst elements of the left is recurring problem with Corbyn, whether it's swappies or Rothschild conspiracists. he's far too comfortable with these cunts, which I guess I understand given all the years he spent in the wilderness when (grim though it may be to admit) they were the bulk of the organised left. I just wish the people around him at least had better judgement.
