The Independent posted:

The police and Special Branch infiltrated trade unions and provided information to the construction industry about a blacklist of workers.

A blacklist of construction workers was exposed in 2009 with the discovery that an organisation called the Consulting Association kept secret files on thousands of trade union members, often for raising concerns about safety on building sites. Workers on the illegal database were denied employment on construction projects.

Millions of pounds have since been paid out in compensation by some of the country’s biggest construction firms.

An inquiry is currently being held in the High Court into the undercover policing.

Dave Smith, secretary of the Blacklist Support Group, said he had waited six years for the news. “When we first talked about police collusion in blacklisting, people thought we were conspiracy theorists," he said. "We were told ‘things like that don’t happen here’. With this admission from the Met Police, our quest for the truth has been vindicated.

“The police are supposed to detect crime; instead they infiltrated trade unions and provided intelligence to an unlawful corporate conspiracy. This is why we need the public inquiry into undercover policing to be open and transparent, in order to get to the truth about how police intelligence was shared with private sector third parties including major companies.”

A statement from London's Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) said the force "apologised for the delay in providing the complainants with the outcome to the investigation carried out into allegations that members of the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) and MPS Special Branch provided information to the blacklist. The blacklist is said to have been funded by the major firms in the construction industry. Allegations about police involvement with the blacklist will be fully explored during the Undercover Policing Public Inquiry (UCPI), which will hear detailed evidence regarding this subject."

Imran Khan QC, who is representing blacklisted workers, said: “The delay from the Metropolitan Police in responding to our [2012] complaint at a time when there has been so much public and parliamentary interest in the matter is concerning to say the least.

“The blacklisted workers that I represent have clearly suffered a grave injustice; to find out that some of the information on the unlawful blacklist was supplied by the custodians of law and order only compounds the injury. My clients deserve full disclosure and we have now requested a full copy of their internal investigation report. We hope the police response does not take so long this time around.”

Justin Bowden, national officer of the GMB, said: “The secret blacklisting of 3,213 construction workers and environmentalists was the greatest employment scandal in 50 years. When GMB launched the first High Court claims on behalf of those blacklisted, there were many in the establishment who said we had paranoid conspiracy theorists. Admission by the police that they were directly and deeply involved in denying ordinary working people – who in many cases had done little more than raise health and safety concerns – from work and the chance to support themselves and their families is a constitutional crisis that can only be properly addressed by a full, independent public inquiry.”

I've only turned a handful of things and therefore am hardly an expert, so: I don't know if there's a better way of clearing out the inside of the cone. It's basically the same way you'd hollow out a deep vessel, with the tool rest going well into the form itself, but taken to the extreme while... uh, sitting on the tool rest? I guess if you're dead-set on doing this, you kinda have to do it this way.

That said: holy poo poo does everything about it seem unsafe. That thing seems to spend about 80% of the time out of round. The fact that he had to suspend it from the ceiling for support... I don't even know. I'm mostly amazed at the faceplate and bolts which managed to actually hold the stock.

Good on him for wearing a face shield though!

So what am I seeing? I’m guessing the first thing pictured in the air was not a missile, but maybe something that flew for a second then fell, triggering a false alarm and the missile to launch, which then tracked the falling object straight into the ground?

Edit: or was the system working as intended but the missile had a flight failure and impacted the ground?

Yeah, but are those ways going to allow him to milk donation money from his followers?

Mad Mike expects to raise $2 million for his next launch which will supposedly take him 63 miles up to the Karman line (which is roughly the lowest point that can be said to be outer space) but he's absolutely fuckin' awful at self promotion and fundraising so I don't know how he thinks people will get the money to him. Rather than promote his last few attempts at launching the rocket he tried to keep them as secret as possible to the point where he wasn't announcing the launch times and he was warning people that if they tried to turn up and watch it happen live he'd have armed guards escort them off the property. His Facebook page is actually quite active with thousands of people following it and hundreds and hundreds of people commenting whenever he posts but he hardly ever makes progress updates or anything like that and his only interaction with his followers is to scream at trolls in the comments and order them to stop posting and threatening to gently caress their wives. He had an online crowdfunding campaign about a year ago that someone from the flat earth community set up and ran for him (without his knowledge or permission!) which actually raised about $7000 but there's rumours they didn't pass the full amount on to Mike and kept about $2000 for themselves. Recently Mike set up his own GoFundMe campaign to raise additional funds for his latest rocket launch with a goal of $10,000 but he never promoted it anywhere online and never offered any backer rewards and he only managed to raise $110.

His plan is literally: Phase 1: Get famous, Phase 2: ?????, Phase 3: Profit

i think this was at least in part because he was planning to launch on public land and the BLM/park service kept saying they would arrest him if he tried.

Nah this was well after that. Also his plan was to launch from private property and land on public land and he thought he had verbal permission from the BLM so he never bothered getting a permit or anything and after he'd spent a week setting everything up the BLM walked in and told him to gently caress off. So he dismantled everything and moved to a new location where he was sure he'd be launching from and also landing on private property but the BLM turned up again and told him to gently caress off because his friend's property line was still 150 feet away and he'd set up on BLM land. So he dismantled everything again and tried to move 200 feet away but the ground was really, really sandy and he couldn't drive his equipment across it so he took everything home and rebuilt the rocket and the launch RV so that it would fly straight up so he could just launch from the first spot where he'd set up and land there as well.

Also every time he dismantled everything and moved it he had to spend some time repairing the rocket because stuff like this would happen:

https://i.imgur.com/tsCq2Fh.mp4

https://i.imgur.com/sg1vidj.mp4

https://i.imgur.com/ETJNntE.mp4

The first time he tried to move the rocket it fell off the trailer and got dragged along the ground for quite some distance before anyone noticed.

If he brought a gun BLM wouldn't have told them to gently caress off.

Even without the flat earth thing people would have paid money to see someone suicide fly on a steampunk bottle rocket. He is a poster child for a person with just enough knowledge to build something but not in anyway safe for anybody. LOL planning on deploying one parachute then find mid flight gee, maybe I should deploy the second if I want to live, then he takes it to the next level by building in a crump zone of dubious quality.
